Dr. Sabra Cole, one of the Sanctum’s most brilliant minds, is the chief bio-engineer behind the Lantern Project—an operation that breeds genetically engineered humans to produce light and power for a city shrouded in eternal dusk. Sabra appears loyal to the Sanctum Council, where each member hides their face behind a mask and robes.
But it has been a long time since the Lantern project had delivered its promises and the city is running out of power. The Sanctum Council forces her to work on a project far more cruel: to work with young adults whose abilities are clearly not up to scratch.
Sabra was once a singer in the seedy bars of the underlevels of the city, where the young, rebellious and penniless gather. She still visits in secret to reminisce of a life that once seemed free.
There she meets Jorven, a mechanic from the underlevels, and learns that the girls in her secret project are picked up off the streets.
Sabra begins to question everything. Jorven becomes a lifeline. A rebellion ignites, and Sabra has a hard choice to make. Because the rebels don’t trust her, and to be honest, so they shouldn’t.
