Dr. Aleron Kong is the father of American LitRPG. Join him in his best-selling LitRPG saga, The Land. The journey of terrifying adventures, dangerous enemies, and heart-stopping wonder continues here.

"This is the world you were meant to fight for!"

Welcome to the sixth vivacious installment of Aleron Kong's Chaos Seeds series.

The time of hiding has passed. The Mist Village will make itself known. Goblins have invaded Richter’s lands. Though the first incursion has been defeated, the anger of Chaos Seed remains. Those who challenge Richter’s power will learn there is a reason all creatures fear the mist.... It is the home of monsters.

For the first time, Richter takes the battle to his enemies. He will live up to his name, and the very Land will shake with this power. With his allies, the wood sprites of Nadria, the army of the Mist Village marches to war. Richter has been a healer, an enchanter, a dungeon diver, and a killer. Now he becomes something more. He becomes a raider!

This is a world of wonder and horror. This is a world of pain and joy. This is the world of monsters...and the brave men who battle them. Welcome back my friends!

Welcome back...to the Land!

LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Beat the grind and submerse yourself in these addictive LitRPGs.

Prompts and Yet More Prompts: The RPG

I really like the Chaos Seeds series, but book 5 and book 6 were lacking in overall storyline and plot. Instead, it was listening to prompt after prompt after prompt.

You know what it was like? As a teen, I begged my boyfriend to teach me Dungeon and Dragons. Instead of spending time being a good teacher or playing a good game, he would instead spend hours bragging through all the choice he could have made. He would elaborate on what powers he chose for his characters and boast endlessly about how MinMaxed his character was. I would sit there screaming internally for him to get over his self ego pumping blow job and just let us play the game. What was more frustrating was that I had read his world material and the game potential was amazing....but every game required sitting there, nodding like a bobble head and trying to slog through the endless descriptions of shit that didn't matter.

That is exactly what book 5 was like as prompts would describe endless powers and potentials and repeating information that wasn't even being used by Richter immediately. There were so many repeating prompts, my husband put a ban on playing any more Chaos Seeds Audible files in the car because he refused to listen to "Someone reading off their Mary Sue character sheet over and over."

There is an amazing story here and I'm slogging through trying to find it, but both book 5 and book 6 feel like they're 75% prompts and point allocation and only 25% actual storyline. After 6 books we should be so much further into the actual story, more things on Richter's To Do list should be done, more exploration should be completed. I find myself hitting the 30second skip button now when I hear the "Prompt" voice start up...once I nearly skipped a full chapter because there were just that many useless prompts. Maybe its easier when reading, but I use audible for 90% of my books now a days.

What I hate is there is a good story here, but I'll probably never relisten to this series because I'm hating how much of a chore it is to get through the prompts. I wish I knew how to get this review to Aleron directly because I want to tell him his story is intriguing and I want to read it till the end...but the constant interruption of the storyline with the Richter reading an endless list of character stuff feels like being forced to sit through commercials in a movie. There is no satisfaction after SIX BOOKS to give you a feeling of completion. Its just a constant never ending cliff hanger from one book to the next without enough actual story to make you feel satisfied. Its beginning to feel pointless...probably because all the points got spent at some prompt I skipped over during a +5 boredom rebuff.

Starting to get bad

Whole chapters of stat reading of repetitive stat descriptions. I must have fast forwarded at least 45 min of the book if you add all the parts up. not sure if I will continue with this series.

Great Build up

Honestly their is so much going on at this point the story started to struggle with unfinished quests. This is where it was turned around.

1. Something I liked: This is where Richter became a real person to me at. He was cruel to his enemies and good to his pets. As a dog person I would so do this for my pups.

2. Something I disliked: some interactions felt forced. Like Yoshi is a master expert. I have no problem with his loyalty but the thing with the hand speak. That bothered me. Plus I feel like he should of been able to track the snake with all of his war buffs.

3. The title: Raiders honestly with this book I was expecting a full on attack instead I was pleasantly surprised and find the title fitting.

4. Favorite Character: With our a doubt Alma. I’m hoping at level 10 Psy-Bond she is no longer a servant but a true equal at that point.

5. My suggestion: Finish some of the big storylines and gives us a clear calendar

6. Would I recommend this book/series: Hell yes I got my little brother hooked on these and my daughter enjoys the parts she is allowed to listen to. (Had to edit out the prisoner scenes of course)

Top notch story and narration! 5 stars is not enough!

Nick podehl is by far the best narrator out there. He brings these books to life! It amazes me how he remembers and maintains the exact same voices for characters in this series, book after book. As for the story. I can’t remember another series that has kept me as excited for the next book as the chaos seed storyline has. Aleron Kong is a master of weaving the story together and making it tense and funny and exciting all at once. By far one of my new favorite authors and stories. I highly recommend this book and the previous books in the series!

Enough already

Seems like the first 2 hours was nothing but stats and prompts. I think the book would only be about 2/3 as long without all the stats. It’s just too much.
