LitRPG means Literary Role Playing Game. Simply put, it’s the book version of watching someone play a video game, usually one that’s set up like an MMO (massively multiplayer online) RPG. It’s a blend of sci-fi and fantasy, depending on how it comes to be that our main character ends up living inside a virtual reality. the point of LitRPG is not how we get there, but that we get to be in this virtual reality period, living life as a badass video-game character. Episodic but that's not a bad thing

This is the best LitRPG series on audible, hands down. By that I mean it's cogently written, extremely well paced, filled with interesting characters and game mechanics, and the internal, moralizing hand-wringing is kept to just the right amount... which means the character isn't a sociopath and considers his actions, but the books aren't polluted by swaths of unending internal struggle.

Also, the prose isn't smeared with sophomoric writing mistakes and redundant explanation... I.e. the books are actually edited in a professional manner, unlike the majority of the LitRPG on this site.

Oh, and Nick Podehl effing kills it!

I've noticed that the third and fourth books in this series have become a bit more episodic than the first two. They don't necessarily have the traditional plot of starting small and building to climax. Rather, they are just packed with small adventures and interesting twists that all tie in to many of the long-running threads of the series. Think of your favorite X-Files/Dexter/BSG-esque TV show and you'v got the idea.

I am enjoying this style except when the books end abruptly and I have to wait for the next installment. This is definitely a binge-worthy series and I wish they'd hurry up and record the audio versions of the rest of the books that are already in print.

Gnomes Rule!!

Didn't want to stop listening

What made the experience of listening to The Land: Catacombs the most enjoyable?

I love the story, great reader that has stayed consistent.

What did you like best about this story?

Well Balanced between heart pumping action to head shaking laughter. I also like the characters, so many other series I start to dislike the main characters and want to see them taken out just to shake things up or because I just don't like them. I actually like the "main characters" and find them interesting and enjoyable. I'm on their side.

Have you listened to any of Nick Podehl’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

He's one of the best readers!
