The Lady in Flesh

Psalms of the Tear: Book I

Written by Joshua Bish - Narrated by Ashen Morire

Some doors should never be opened. Others… should never have been built at all.

Welcome to Concord University, nestled in the Appalachian hills, where something ancient waits beneath brick and bone. When a young woman vanishes without a trace, her disappearance awakens a darkness long buried in a forgotten dormitory room. Whispers echo through the walls, and students begin to see things that shouldn’t exist—things that want to be seen.

The Lady in Flesh is a psychological and supernatural horror experience that blends chilling theology, unsettling lore, and unrelenting dread. As Room 316 reveals its secrets, sanity begins to unravel, and the line between faith and fear disappears.

Narrated by Ashen Morire with haunting precision, this audiobook plunges listeners into a world where memories bleed, nightmares breathe, and no one escapes unmarked.

Dare to listen. But know this—she remembers who you are.

This is a frightening and intense supernatural Appalachian horror story. There is lots of excitement and shocks throughout!!
It is a bit of a slow burn, but once it popped, boy did it pop!! It starts out with ancient historical folklore and then moves into the present.

The imagery is fantastic and I felt like I was enjoying a terror invoking horror movie!!

I listening to the audio version and the narrator did a very good job!!

I listened to this on audio, and it pulled me in from the very beginning. The story is unsettling in the best way, weaving history, folklore, and creeping dread into something that feels both epic and intimate. Wenonah’s journey is haunting and tragic, and the gradual reveal of the Shadow Realm is full of tension. The world-building is rich, the horror is vivid without relying on cheap tricks, and the generational aspect gives the whole book a heavy emotional weight. The narration added even more intensity to the experience. If you enjoy deep, mythic horror that stays with you long after you finish, this one delivers.

Dark, atmospheric, and completely absorbing

The Lady in Flesh is a chilling blend of psychological and supernatural horror that immediately pulls you into its dark Appalachian setting. The author creates an atmosphere filled with dread, theological mystery, and eerie whispers that linger long after each chapter. Concord University becomes a character of its own, quietly haunted, full of secrets, and unsettling in all the right ways. The disappearance of a student triggers a slow, creeping unraveling, and Room 316 delivers some truly memorable, disturbing moments. The world-building is rich with lore, and the themes of faith, memory, and fear are woven in with surprising depth. Ashen Morire’s narration adds an extra layer of tension. The delivery is haunting, vivid, and perfectly matched to the story’s tone, making the horror feel uncomfortably close.

My only wish is that certain plot points had been explored a bit more deeply, as the world is fascinating and leaves you wanting more clarity in places. Still, the suspense, atmosphere, and unique blend of theology and terror make this a gripping listen. If you enjoy slow-burn horror filled with mystery, unsettling imagery, and creeping dread, The Lady in Flesh is definitely worth experiencing.

I loved the mix of college life with that slow creeping supernatural dread felt super effective, and the whole mystery around Room 316 is enticing. The descriptions were eerie without going overboard, and the story plays elegantly with faith and fear in little subtle ways. The narrator did a great job too.

Creepy
