Story
In 1869, Gloriana Womack's family is much smaller since smallpox killed her mother and two of her siblings. She lives in a modest cottage in Duluth, Minnesota, with her father and young brother, and she has dedicated her life to holding her tiny, fractured family together - especially as her father is frequently gone on long fishing trips. Their livelihood may come from the waters of Lake Superior, but storms on the lake can be dangerous, even to those who know it well. Luke Carson has come to Duluth to help shepherd the arrival of the railroad to the city's port.

He came to this wild Montana mining town to make a difference, but all he's found is pig-headed resistance. Even the sassy niece of the blind widow won't heed his instructions. Good book, bad narration.
This was a good book. But the narration was very distracting. The character lines were read as if before a kindergarten class. They sounded cartoonish. Narration detracted from story for me.

Disappointed with Performance
I liked the story but this was a painful few hours of my life. The narrator sounded like a newscaster that was trying to inject emotion (and failing) into the story. I was glad when it ended. It’s a shame because I really like Beller’s books. This was a narration fluke.

Just ok
Christians are known for their kindness but they should not forget to be honest. The faith based story was refreshing and it was a good storyline. But I feel the author was resting on her laurels a bit. The whole thing could have been better. I Did not know it was part of a series. I'm going to try the others in the series but from the library. I will not purchase.

This just in...
Is there anything you would change about this book?
The narrator sounds like a news caster. It is painful. Beller has simple, sweet, enjoyable stories. Though not challenging or insightful, they are full of life, hope, and love. So sad that this story was murdered by the narrator. This just in... Gruesome homicide of a sweet story.

Unfortunate narration
Would you say that listening to this book was time well-spent? Why or why not?
N/A
What other book might you compare The Lady and the Mountain Fire to and why?
Ms. Beller's other books.
How did the narrator detract from the book?
She did not use good judgment in trying to vary the voices of each character. She used a little girl voice (which I found annoying) for the heroine. The narrator has a pleasant voice and could have used her voice for the heroine instead of putting on this high pitched silly voice. Her voice for all the women was not used in a conversational manner. Her voice for the hero was more believable because she did not force it.She mispronounced many words. For example, enveloped does not mean putting into an envelope. The word is envelop ed: to surround. Albeit is not "all bait". Etc. It ruins the story when the narration is uneducated.
Did The Lady and the Mountain Fire inspire you to do anything?
I enjoyed looking up the bible passages.
Any additional comments?
This was a good story, as I have found all of Ms. Beller's books in this genre.
