Publisher's summary

The Hurlingford family have ruled the small town of Byron for generations. Wealthy, powerful and cruel, they get what they want, every time.

Missy Wright, a Hurlingford by birth, has been shunned by her family since marrying for love, not money. Now widowed, she lives quiet existence in genteel poverty. But then a stranger arrives in town; a divorcee from Sydney. She opens Missy's eyes to the possibility of a happy ending.

A long time favourite!

A simple, sweet story which shows that even spinsters get their day! Loved listening to the audible version after reading it many years ago.

Reminds me of The Blue Castle by LMMontgomery

Audible needs to rewrite their summary. This is the story of an impoverished downtrodden spinster. Missy develops a spine after meeting a charming divorcee and falling in love with a mysterious widower who has purchased an unspoiled nearby valley. With their help she foils her greedy male relatives and improves the lives of her numerous female relatives. There is also a batsqueak of the paranormal, but this is not apparent until the final pages of the book. The story is charming and written with great tenderness. The reader does not grate but there are a few mispronounced words.

Please fix the blurb!

This has always been one of my favourite books. The naration is ok, but not brilliant. Still, I can see myself coming back to this title time and again.

There is just one serious problem: can Amazon PLEASE fix the blurb? It seems to have been written by someone who never actually read or listened to the book.
