Publisher's Summary

Is Moscow pulling the strings? Urgent, topical and shot through with insider knowledge, this is thriller writing on a grand scale.

Russian counterintelligence chief Colonel Dominika Egorova has been a recruited asset of the CIA - stealing Kremlin secrets for her handler, Nate Nash - for over seven years. In the dazzling finale of the Red Sparrow trilogy, their forbidden and tumultuous love affair continues, mortally dangerous for them both but irresistible.

In Washington, a newly installed administration is selecting its cabinet members. Dominika hears whispers of a closely held Kremlin operation to place a mole in a high intelligence position. If the Kremlin's candidate is confirmed, the Russians will have access to all the names of assets spying for the CIA in Moscow, including Dominika's.

Dominika recklessly immerses herself in the palace intrigues of the Kremlin, searching for the mole's identity and stealing as many of President Putin's secrets for her CIA handlers as she can before her time runs out.

With a plot ripped from tomorrow's headlines, The Kremlin's Candidate is a riveting listen and a thrilling conclusion to the trilogy that began with Red Sparrow and Palace of Treason

Annoying gimmick

Inserting a recipe at the end of each chapter is an annoying gimmick made worse listening to the audio book. Spoiled the whole book

Brilliant writing craft!

A fitting end to a great trilogy. Sad ending but such is the nature of the fiction and the not so fictional, real world reality, that the entire story is modelled on. I look forward to day I get to meet my own blue eyed dancer with planetary resolve, animal intentions, an almost imperceptible limp, and warm hearted obsession. Dominika was indeed a lovely character to get to know.

Recipes are not necessary!

Great book, great story, great characters!! BUT, completely irrelevant recipes are not needed; especially when they dont even include quantities or any really meaningful cooking instructions.

Stunning conclusion to the trilogy

There were some aspects that were too similar to the other 2 books, like her wanting to get the Sparrow out but the Sparrow being murdered ..... again?
The end was very sad, but good book overall.
At least the narrator is good

Needs a better reader

What did you like most about The Kremlin's Candidate?

Good, interesting story.

What did you like best about this story?

Mostly gripping, with fewer detailed sex scenes than in the previous two books, which seemed like simple padding.

How could the performance have been better?

A better reader who understands how not to maintain a boring tone and how to pronounce borrowed foreign words.

If you made a film of this book, what would be the tag line be?

She's a killer who loves her country enough to betray its government.

Best of the series.

The series has grown as you engaged with the characters. Really impressed with the tradecraft.

An ending spoiled

What a shame the narration was so poor it distracted from the ending of this entertaining story. Quality control seems to be lacking!

Extremely enjoyable and satisfying trilogy

The final book in the trilogy is very well written with well developed characters that one has come to know and support. The narrative moves along at a nice pace and complex sub-plots. I particularly enjoyed the introduction of Agnes, the Polish-American spy and her interaction with Dominika, now the Director of SVR. The ending was very satisfying because I didn’t see it coming. I will miss these characters unless Jason Matthews changes his mind and writes another novel.

It's Ok

Its ok-ish as a conclusion but it wasn't as thrilling as the first two. I guess it may have been because I new it was the last in the current series. I listened to it because I needed to complete the trilogy.

Too many flaws, to be plausible

as the book went on it, it became more and more implausible, which was disappointing. The recipes in a book can be ignored, not in an audiobook....

still well told and if you suspend logic is a good yarn

So sad it's over!

The third book was as good as the first two. Why a trilogy? This story could go on with more adventures. Thoroughly enjoyed.

Incredible

An incredibly well written trilogy. The story line, the journey, the attention to detail, the recipes. I have a massive void in my life now.

good read

the follow on from the previous two book was excellent thoroughly enjoyed the journey. this third book is read by someone who doesnt know how to pronounce some basic English words. clearly the producers have the same difficulty as they would have picked it up and presumably corrected them. the Australian accent was a little too bogan.

Brilliant trilogy. Keeps the listener on a tight string with unexpected turns and twists. Close to my imagined reality of the world of spies. Enjoyed both narrators.
