Publisher's summary

A disillusioned soldier. A spoiled, untried prince. A coup that threatens the country they love.

When retired soldier Kemen finds the young prince Hakan fleeing an attempted assassination, he reluctantly takes the role of mentor and guardian. Keeping the prince alive is challenging enough. Making him a man is harder.

As usurper Vidar tightens his grip on power, Kemen wrestles with questions of duty and honor. What if the prince isn't the best ruler after all?

Invasion looms, and Kemen's decisions will shape the fate of a nation. What will he sacrifice for friendship and honor?

An Immaculate Epic Adventure with Realism in a Fastastical Setting

I've read and listened to several shorts by C J Brightley. Although they did not blow me away, the storytelling was exceptional for an Indie author.
Going into this full length novel, I anticipated more and was treated to a world building full of wonderment with characters so deeply rooted with self conviction and meaning, it was easy to get lost in it.
This must have been professionally edited and cultivated for years. It flowed easily, despite the complexity of the quests and plot.
The narrator was ideal for this storytelling. It was to listen and remain entranced with the book.
A throwback to true epic books. This book isn't a "light" book, but it will entrap a listener or reader until the final words.
Snarky main characters are fine (once in a while) but I was so over it. This book had the characters we connect with and care about.
No love triangles! Although this could be YA, it does not have that annoyance!
Characters grow because of events and knowledge, not because it's plot driven.
Conversations are smooth and believable. It's not forced not stilted.

Descriptive writing! For a first person POV, it is not over burdened with monotonous, tedious details. Only somewhat occasionally stilted, this the 4 stars for the story- but more like 4.50, just not quite 5.
I recommend this to everyone who wants a GOOD book to curl up with.

I was offered an audible code but freely and enthusiastically offer my review and opinions.

Outstanding

What an amazing story read by a narrator that keeps you listening until the end. A Prince that’s fleeing an attempted assasination and someone that’s trying to save him. Fast paced.

Enjoyable

A long book with lots of twists and turns and emotions. The kid Prince grew up along the way and became the man King. Somewhere along their way the arrogant child became humble. I HIGHLY recommend this book 😍📚😍

An interesting story about a prince and a soldier

The King's Sword is an interesting story about a prince on the run and a retired soldier who rescues him. The narrator does a good job reading the story, and his voice is pleasant, though his reading is not particularly lively.
