Publisher's summary

Lord Tristram Radcliffe has a secret - he is the only dragon at the king’s court in Llangard. It’s a secret he’s kept from the knights he’s fought beside, from the ladies who bat their lashes at him, and from his closest companion, Prince Reynold. If it were to get out, he’d be banished to the Mawrcraig Mountains along with the rest of his kind, but the kingdom of men is the only one he’s ever known, and his heart lives in the stone halls of those who’d count him an enemy.

When the old king dies and Prince Reynold takes the throne, two visitors from the north throw Tristram into the middle of the ancient conflict between dragons and men. They put him on a collision course with the king’s shadow, Bet Kyston, a dangerous assassin who may want him dead or may want more of Tristram that he’d ever thought to give.

With the eyes of dragons upon him and a threat from the north creeping toward the home he loves, Tristram must weigh his allegiances before his dual legacies tear him apart.

Didn't Work For Me

Epic Fantasy Novel, not MM Romance, but LBGTQ characters. But the characters and world building are good.
Well the idea of two narrator's sounded good, but I didn't expect it to be like this. I think it falls flat, I thought they would divide up the characters instead they divide chapters, according to make female POV. So characters voices changed from chapter to chapter, so you couldn't tell who was talking unless a name was stated.

Great beginning for a new series

I started this book because I enjoy M/M romance and dragon shifters and was interested to see how the authors developed these ideas differently from others in the genre. I stayed for those things, but even more for all the intrigue, political machinations and world building. It was interesting to see a dragon shifter in a world where no one knew that is what he was. Watching him try to navigate while keeping his secret in a time where war seems about to break out between men and dragons. I had expected a relationship between Tris and Reynold, not Tris and Bet but was very happy with this pairing or dragon and assassin. Both MCs have all kinds of secrets from the world and from each other and they are great together. I was expecting the ending to leave things unresolved so was not surprised or disappointed, just waiting eagerly to see more of these characters and watch this world develop. I love getting in at the very beginning of what I think is going to be an amazing series. Greg Boudreaux is never less than amazing and Lessa Lamb is right there with him in narrator quality here. Characters are distinct and their emotions and scheming comes across beautifully. Great story and great audible handling of it.

Intriguing story

I loved the various perspectives on events as they unfolded. Each character captured my interest in different ways and got me invested in their outcomes, romantic and otherwise. Great story, complex characters, interesting plot, had something of a George RR Martin vibe, but with LGBT+ leads, though I'm hoping fewer of my favorites will be dying as the story continues to unfold. Ended on a bit of a cliffhanger, can't wait to find out what happens next and where the story takes the cast next.

Good read!

What more could you want in a story? It has Dragon's, elfs, male/male and female/female romance along with the progression of a kingdoms mindset.

Amazing!!

I’ve never reviewed a book before but it was just amazing. Every character was given so much definition, even the side characters.

Wow

WM Fawkes and Sam Burns created an amazing world of magic. There is multiple POVs, and love all of characters telling the story. Chapter One was a bit confusing as you meet many characters, but before I know that did not matter. Lessa Lamb and Greg Boudreaux were brilliant with the different voices and emotions infused in the story. Definitely will be following the series as the series kicked of with a bang and the next one already sounds amazing.

I loved it!

Characters were all very interesting, I thought the alternating perspectives would be tiresome but found myself riveted to each of them. The chemistry and tension between the love interests was wonderful. Will definitely be continuing the series.

Fantastic!

Holy cow, this one was so amazingly good! Loved the whole thing from start to finish! Well written, fantastic characters and exquisite world building, this one is for you if you enjoy complex stories with lots of intrigue. I always am happy with a Greg Boudreaux narration but this was a dual narration with a new narrator who did a super nice job! Cannot wait for the next one!
