Publisher's Summary

Set 10 years after the events in Prince of the Blood, this book is a remarkable adventure of mystery and magic.

In Amos Trask's ship, Prince Nicholas and Squire Harry set sail for a friendly visit to Uncle Martin in Crydee.

But while the two are guests in Crydee, disaster strikes.

Nicholas, third son of Prince Arutha, is a gifted youngster, but sheltered by life at his father's court in Krondor. To learn more of the world outside the palace walls, Nicholas and his squire, Harry, set sail for pastoral Crydee, where Arutha grew up.

Shortly after their arrival, Crydee is brutally attacked. The castle is reduced to ruins, the townspeople slaughtered and two young noblewomen - friends of Nicholas - are abducted. As Nicholas ventures further from the familiar landmarks of his home in pursuit of the invaders, he learns that there is more at stake than the fate of his friends, more even than fate of the Kingdom of the Isles, for behind the murderous pirates stands a force that threatens the entire world of Midkemia, and only he is destined to confront this terrifying threat.

loving this series, very gripping

Feist is a talented storyteller weaving plots and subplots seamlessly.

I can't wait to get into the next book. love that this could also be read as a stand alone thanks to the prologue.

Amazing Story. Terrible Narrator

Raymond E Feist books are legendary and magnificent. The original Narrator they used for Magician not from Harper Audio was amazing, however Peter Joyce makes the top 10 of worst narrators on audible. Accents are shocking with men sounding like screeching women, he cant pronounce word properly using his own take on names, and overall just a very bad performance.

As for the story .. amazing, amazing, amazing .. but narrator spoils it sadly.

Another fantastic tale

Another super yarn from the pen of Feist with Peter Joyce's excellent portrayal of the cast of characters.
Best read in order of sequence in the Pug/Magician books, but at a minimum, read the first trilogy starting with 'Magician, otherwise references to certain characters will mean diddly squat!

This book is set mainly at sea and on the antipodean continent of Novindus, giving it fresh perspective and detail from previous books. The never ending story telling skills of Feist, along with his ability to describe objects, people and events while keeping my interest is something special.

I really enjoyed this book, but I have enjoyed every one in the Midcamia saga so far, so I AM biased. I got a refund on one book with a different American narrator........AWFULL!! Stick with Peter Joyce narrated stories.
I'll be buying another one with my next credit.

I've purposely avoided talking about the actual story line of this book so as not to spoil it for others who com after me. You'll have to trust me . 😇

Great story, rich characters, highly recommended!

Great story, deep rich world and characters that suck you in. Literally the only thing I wasn't mad about was that he killed off a lot of old beloved characters from the earlier books with barely a mention. The reader is fantastic, his voices and acting bring the characters to life! Highly recommended!

Pirates and sorcery.

Can you beat a better combo? No, didn't think so. Everything is fantastic, the voice narration, the plot the setup for the next saga. Nicky for King.

another cracking adventure

it's not really high fantasy, but there is rollicking adventure, moments of pathos and humour. after feeling like his first book was a bit staccato when on audible, this one rolls along. Peter Joyce has an excellent range which makes the different characters really zing with personality

good performance

great story as always, Peter Joyce is the voice of this world for me now.

I found it hard to keep going story wise as there's a certain storytrope of copying that always loses me. However, still a good listen.

Good Read

I read the book years ago. Narrator is good but some pronunciation is odd and his female impressions made me laugh and cringe. the story is good, but a bit predictable, but it does set the scene for the next chapter.

Yet another excellent book by Raymond E Feist.

From Magician right through to the end of the serpentwar saga these books are great. I've started to revisit them because there are others in the series now since I originally read them and if like to have the story fresh in my mind.

Simply excellent and heartily recommended but start with Magician!

sea voyage of adventure

This is about the other son - following on from Prince of the blood. Nicholas, third son of Prince Arutha, leaves his father's court in Krondor to learn more of the world outside the palace walls with his squire, Harry. They set sail for pastoral Crydee, where Arutha grew up. There are dangers facing Midkemia- this book sees a bit of it with sea voyages, assassins, political intrigue and good humour.

Great new story

I thoroughly recommend this divergence to the ongoing Midkemia story. This was a highly well thought plot that moved along at a good pace. The characters were diverse and easy to get to know and root for. I’m sorry the series did not follow on as Raymond Feist intended but I shall still go on with the next book. My only hope is that I get to know what happens to these characters introduced in this book at some point in the future. Great storytelling and terrific narration.

Absolutely Riveting

When introduced to the crippled Brother of our twin heroes from the last saga, I necer thought I'd care so much for him and his ups and downs as I have through this book.

And getting to know Amos As well as my favourite character Nackor through their misadventures have been some of the most fun I've had in the riftsaga books so far. (Perhaps only second to the Empire Triology which I also highly recommend)
