Publisher's Summary

The Office of the Public Defender is not known as a training ground for bright young litigators. Clay Carter has been there too long, and, like most of his colleagues, dreams of a better job in a real firm. When he reluctantly takes the case of a young man charged with a random street killing, he assumes it is just another of the many senseless murders that hit D.C. every week.

As he digs into the background of his client, Clay stumbles upon a conspiracy too horrible to believe. He suddenly finds himself in the middle of a complex case against one of the largest pharmaceutical companies in the world, looking at the kind of enormous settlement that would totally change his life, that would make him, almost overnight, the legal profession's newest king of torts.

Choose the Unabridged Version!

I listened to this on the back of two meaty unabridged books but just found it too quick. So much detail is crammed into the five hours devaluing a lot of it unfortunately. Yes, I know, that's what abridging is all about but it's not for me i'm afraid.

The story itself is gripping so no disrespect to the author - i'm sure the lad will go far! ;-) Definitely worth a listen but go for the longer version!

Great Story Average Ending

I have dropped this down to 4 stars in overall and story simply because of the ending. I won't post any spoilers but it felt like this big win and then the reader/listener was left hanging wanting to know what happened next. Grisham doesn't do romance and I get that but if you are going to put in your books don't leave the audience hanging.
As normal unfortunately he narrators on Grisham's book are a bit dry and monotone to listen to. The story is good enough to continue listening though
