Nice and Funny Second Instalment

I love the titles that LS gives her books in this series. They have meaning and you learn this right away. The subject matter and the humor in her books are so delightful. They are a must listen.

Decent story

While I enjoyed the story, and narration, I’m even more amused as the furious review about the waterproof plaids. I hope the review felt satisfied with herself for leaving it.

The "Hero" cheats on his wife!

Seeeeeriously...*angry eyes*

Oh, did I hate this book. The wife arrives at the keep, which is so filthy, she can't sit down without sitting in gunk. She insists it be keep cleaned. The husband is so childish, that he REFUSES to bathe.

"It's dangerous to wash kilts because the dirt makes them waterproof."

BULL SHIT! I knit shawls with 100% wool! Wool IS waterproof *censors herself from attacking the author* That's why the Scots use wool! That's why Irish wool coats are so popular! Because they're WATERPROOF AND WARM! Dumb bitch. You CAN wash wool. You can't DRY it because it will shrink! And then when the wife refuses his bed because he's disgusting, he cheats on her and goes to another woman!

Seriously. I hate this book so much! I won't be reading the rest of the series.

For the love of yourself, skip this one.

I have several issues with this bucket of dirty bath water that is this audiobook.

Firstly, the narrator has a odd and distracting cadence with too long pauses between commas. She’s got a pretty good grasp on the Scottish accents but she fritters in and out of an American and English accent when I suppose she’s trying to have an English accent. She also pronounced several words wrong. These little things ripped me out of the story and made it seem 100 years long.

As for the story, I’m just at a loss to comprehend why I just read a romance novel in which the main male character refuses to bathe more than twice a year. There was a part where the main female character watches him take of his clothes and admires his body. Details about his ass which were supposed to enflame the reader only had me think that this man has not washed his ass in 6 months! I can’t think of anything more *not hot* than that.

The author also used a lot of words which seemed to be “of the time,” but then fritter in and out with modern words and sayings. Again, distracting me from the story. She also seemed to really like the Gaelic word for whisky because 3/4 into the book it was said 50 times. Of course the narrator butchered the pronunciation of that too.

I tried explaining this book to my fiancé and we both couldn’t stop laughing at how insane it was to write a romance novel about poor hygiene.

TL;DR: unless your kink is unwashed ass and frustrating narration, skip this one.
