Publisher's summary

"Fred Berman brings the team to life. His well-paced delivery allows the story's laugh-out-loud humor to shine, particularly the dry one-liners and wisecracks from Corey and Andy...Berman's narration, along with the fun and engaging mystery, results in a thoroughly enjoyable listen." (AudioFile magazine)

From best-selling mystery author David Rosenfelt comes a new series - a spinoff of the much beloved Andy Carpenter mysteries - about a dynamic new investigative team featuring a determined former cop and his loyal German Shepherd.

Corey Douglas and his K-9 partner, Simon Garfunkel, have recently retired from the police force. Not ready to give up the life yet, they come up with a proposal for fellow former cop, Laurie Carpenter, and her investigating partner, Marcus. Laurie and Marcus - who help out Laurie’s lawyer husband Andy on cases - have been chafing to jump back into investigating on their own, so they are in.

They call themselves the K Team, in honor of Simon. Their first job as private investigators comes to them from Judge Henry Henderson, who's known as a very tough but fair judge, and they've all come up against him in court at one time or another. Though it's hard to believe, Judge Henderson is being blackmailed and extorted, and he doesn't want to involve the police - he needs the K Team to figure out why.

Not For Me !

My husband and I are devoted listeners to the Andy Carpenter series (we've listened to all of them at least three times each) and were looking forward to this spinoff but I was not interested at all. Without Grover Gardner's masterful interpretation Andy just comes across as whiny and unlikeable. I really can't say I enjoyed any part of this book. I am sad because I feel that David Rosenfelt at his best is brilliant !

Did not like the narration

The story is similar to other Andy Carpenter novels. But, this narrator did not capture the personalities of the characters.

Narrator is not Grover Gardner

What were they thinking of getting this narrator to voice these beloved characters? Grover Gardner is the voice of Any Carpenter, Laurie Collins, Marcus, Vince, and Pete. This narrator is nothing short of awful in that regard, but also has a voice that is much too young for a retired cop. But the story is great.

No humer, not Andy Carpenter quality

Boring, too twisting, why Rosenfelt ever leaves being a writer of mystery plus comedy I will never understand because he does it so well.

Convoluted

Being a big fan of the Andy Carpenter series, I was excited to see this new series. So many characters; one after another they are murdered just as the K Team interviews them. It muddled together blackmail, cybercrime, stock market fraud, sex scandals, organized crime and murder. So many names, so many crimes, in a story nearly impossible to follow.

I may return this one...

Why?

Loved the Andy Carpenter series. Loved andy‘s humor and banter. I didn’t even care about the plots. Just wanted to hang around Andy, audibly that is. So why create a series with all of the same characters except the one who was the heart and soul of the team? Don’t get it! Want AndyBack!

It might have been another great Rosenfelt book

It might have been another great David Rosenfelt book, the problem is, I can't tell because I cannot hear all the nuances that I know Grover Gardner would bring out but that this narrator is not capable of showing. I agree with many of the other reviewers in imploring the author to get Grover to narrate his works. I could not listen to it even though I promised myself I would force myself to listen. I know the characters are probably great and I expect the story is great but without a masterful reader to show it, it is useless. David Rosenfelt's Andy Carpenter series is my favorite audio series and his work deserves someone (Grover Gardner) to illuminate it.

Nice Spin-off

Definitely was looking forward to this spinoff from the Andy Carpenter series. Unfortunately, I have great difficulty with Fred Berman’s voice, performance. Have to admit that I’m very picky about my narrators but I will seriously hesitate purchasing another book narrated by Berman.

Disappointed

I was really looking forward to this but was disappointed. I don’t like the narrator so it’s possible I would like the story if I like the narrator. Maybe the next one will be better and hopefully they’ll get somebody else to read it.

Very disappointing.

Perhaps it is my fault that I found this so disappointing I love the Andy Carpenter series and Grover is an excellent narrator. The story is average but the narrator is flat and unengaging. I will stick to Andy Carpenter from now on.
