Publisher's summary

Like Dr. Elisabeth Kübler-Ross' groundbreaking On Death and Dying, Susan Anderson's book clearly defines the five phases of a different kind of grieving - grieving over a lost relationship. An experienced professional who has specialized in helping people with loss, heartbreak, and abandonment for more than two decades, Anderson gives this subject the serious attention it deserves. The Journey from Abandonment to Healing is designed to help all victims of emotional breakups - whether they are suffering from a recent loss or a lingering wound from the past; whether they are caught up in patterns that sabotage their own relationships or they are in a relationship where they no longer feel loved. From the first stunning blow to starting over, this book provides a complete program for abandonment recovery.

A critical read for every adult!

Experiencing major life events in my recent past, both personally and alongside my close friends on their journeys, I finally understood a common thread among us all. Every human has undergone some level of trauma in their childhood that impacts the way they live as adults. Pain is relative to each of us, and its incremental impacts affect each of us so differently. There are 3 key approaches Susan Anderson used in this book that makes it a must-read for every adult:
1) Her scientific explanations behind cause and effect of abandonment could help our culture be more attentive to the way it contributes to mental health
2) She provides a wide variety of examples to help everyone relate their own experiences to each of the 5 stages of abandonment.
3) There’s a simple and clear healing path with an explanation for each component that provides specific examples on how to accomplish each task.

Powerhouse Info

A must read for those that just don't feel, believe or trust that "love" thing as it's a real eyeopener as to the whys. Found myself deliberately repeating each chapter so as to not miss a thing.

Wow, so very insightful

I never could place my finger upon what I was feeling, at times I thought I had some serious mental problem or deficiency maybe deep depression or anxiety or both and didn’t know where to turn for help. Until I found this book. Now I finally feel like I’m not alone and that what I’m feeling isn’t some rare mental problem I’m having. I now have some tools to help me cope and work through how I’m feeling. I have PTSD of Abandonment and it is overwhelming much of the time. Listening to this audiobook and truly following along makes me feel relief. I am so thankful I came across this book and insight.

Here: recover from your loss

Appropriate content to understand, practice, heal most any form of relationship loss.

Reveals and vividly describes silent, intense, seemingly hopeless agony that sufferers often conceal, which can drag one down into depths of loneliness and shame for not being as resilient as we feel we "should" be.

Personally, I preferred the first and last thirds of this book. I blame my lack of connection with adopting "inner child" practice techniques on my own stubbornness, but feel there is real value in the practice itself (I use similar, but different practice).

We all suffer relationship loss at some time in life, which makes this book universally valuable to read and recommend. Ie, it's not just for people who have been abandoned in the traditional vernacular.

Enlightening for the Troubled Heart

I listened to this book on my daily walks with my dog following a breakup. It was transformative and enlightening for it opened my eyes to my own behaviors and feeling of abandonment. This book is wonderful for anyone wanting to learn about themselves and grow or the curious reader/listener. I believe this book is a gateway to all who wish to improve their own relationships.
