For Eugene Appleton, the summer of 1876 in Rattlesnake Junction, Colorado, promises to be just as sleepy as the ones before, his only excitement provided by the pulse-pounding dead-eye Dan adventure novels he devours. But Eugene's life takes an unexpected turn with the arrival of Tumbleweed Thompson, a gangly, red-haired boy who spins yarns about whaling voyages in the Atlantic and hidden stashes of gunpowder. You just can't keep a good girl down...unless you use the proper methods. Piper McCloud can fly. Just like that. Easy as pie. Sure, she hasn't mastered reverse propulsion and her turns are kind of sloppy, but she's real good at loop-the-loops. Problem is, the good folk of Lowland County are afraid of Piper. And her ma's at her wit's end. So it seems only fitting that she leave her parents' farm to attend a top-secret, maximum-security school for kids with exceptional abilities.

Great middle grade adventure story
This is another entertaining book in the Weirdbey Island series. This time Dylan and his friends are faced with defending the island from a creepy carnival and the evil force behind it. The narrator really brings the sinisterness of the circus like carnival characters and the audiobook to life, you feel like you are experiencing all the fear, ingenuity and comradery right along with the kids. It is a well written, creepy adventure that will definitely appeal to middle graders and up.

Stranger Things fans will love this book!
The Island Scaregrounds
A Middle Grade Ghost Story (Weirdbey Island, Book 3)
By: Eldritch Black
Narrated by: J. Scott Bennett
This series does not disappoint! This time on the Island, our gang is dealing with ghosts and evil carnival people. Needing money, they are offered a job to catch ghosts. They agree but they only know part of the story. Things get dicey once they learn more!
A lot of craziness goes on in this book and Dylan's big brother plays a part of his problems this time. Ghosts and carnival people are the biggest part! There are plenty of humor, suspense, decisions of right and wrong to struggle with, and fighting evil! There is action, friendships, trust, and following your conscience in here too!
The characters are well written and the plot unpredictable and clever! Witty dialogue and fun capers rivaling Stranger Things (and I am a big fan of the show)! I would love to see this book series on TV! This is made for middle grade kids but I am in my 60's and find them extremely humorous and well done! They are not as dark as Harry Potter and have more humor than the Potter series too.
The narrator is truly a gem! Various voices and perfect performance in all three books! A perfect person for these books!
I requested and received this book from the author. Thanks! The review is my own opinion.

What an evil bully Jamie was to his brother Dylan. I liked that Dylan got the last laugh. A goid deed to ghosts benefits Dylan, and more evil (Molly) is dealt with nicely. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator did a good job.
