Publisher's Summary

William Bernstein is one of today's most unlikely financial heroes. A practicing neurologist, he used his self-taught investment knowledge and research to build a popular investor's Web site. Now, in the plain-spoken The Intelligent Asset Allocator, he shows independent investors how to build a diversified portfolio without the help of a financial advisor. A breath of fresh air for investors tired of overly technical investment tomes, this book will help investors:

  • Learn the risk/reward characteristics of various investment types
  • Understand and apply portfolio theory for an improved risk/reward ratio
  • Sharpen their focus and take control of their investment programs

OMG was the narrator a real person?

Would you recommend this book to a friend? Why or why not?

Kept falling asleep. Occasionally I would wonder if the narrator was real or a computer generated voice.

Excellent. Paul Merriman fans will like this.

A few of the remarks are dated, such as mentioning a fund or ETF as not existing. However, overall an excellent and practical guide for building your DIY portfolio.

Not a fan of the narrator's reading style - it comes across a bit too smug and snooty, and too self assured. These are not traits intrinsic to Bernstein.

Another excellent read

There is some over lapping of materials but that for some this allows for a good refresher. Definately not a one time read, but bite size portions are unquestionately worth it.

Great intro to asset allocation

Dr. Bernstein does a great job summarizing the passive investor's approach to asset allocation. This is a valuable book, whether you are a novice to investing, or want to hear the fine details about every asset class and the Gordon equation....I can't wait for the next edition of this book.

Excellent "for poets" into to asset allocation

Liked this book as a high-level treatment of asset allocation concepts. Read to grasp the fundamentals of developing a portfolio of investments and the factors that underpin the portfolio's return behavior. Light-hearted and easy to follow.
