Dabei gibt es sie wirklich, die echten Innovationen, die von einigen wenigen genialen Vordenkern (wahlweise auch Weltbesserer, Visionäre oder Geeks genannt) in unsere Welt gebracht werden. Von diesen faszinierenden Persönlichkeiten erzählt Jobs-Biograf Walter Isaacson in seinem von der New York Times und dem Wall Street Journal als "Buch des Jahres" ausgezeichneten Werk - und handelt dabei ganz nebenbei die Entwicklungsgeschichte der digitalen Technik vom Transistor über Computer bis zum Internet ab. Bis Isaacson bei Steve Jobs und Bill Gates im Silicon Valley ankommt, hat er noch viele andere Vorreiter der digitalen Revolution besucht: Zunächst macht er Station bei Ada Lovelace, die bereits 1840 den Grundstock für Programmiersprachen legte, um uns dann mit dem amerikanischen Psychologie-Professor J. C. R. Licklider bekannt zu machen, der als Gründer von Künstlicher Intelligenz - kurz AI - gilt. Schließlich landen wir bei Tim Berners-Lee, dem Erfinder von HTML (und der als Begründer des World Wide Web bekannt ist) und Google-Vater Larry Page.
