Publisher's summary

Our bodies are mere outlines of a vast and complex interior world, a landscape of contradiction and immense mystery. This Celtic view of the human condition predates Christianity yet survives to this day as part of Ireland's unique spiritual tradition. In The Inner Landscape, poet and Catholic scholar John O'Donohue explores the themes of self-exile and hardship and the Celtic way of welcoming paradox and finding precious light in the darkest valleys of our inner terrain.

Instead of fearing the contradictions of the outer world, O'Donohue begins, the Celtic people welcomed them. They developed special blessings for times of suffering in the belief that hardship leads to a special insight or gift of the spirit. When you learn the Celtic "secret of equilibrium" - how to see every difficulty as a threshold of possibility - you renew your life with unending possibilities. Despite our vast technologies, O'Donohue says, our real knowledge is minimal. Only within "the inner landscape" with which we are each blessed can true knowing take place.

Pure wisdom and insight

John O'Donahue's writings are a treasure trove of wisdom, enlightenment and knowledge presented in a very accessible manner. His delightful Irish brogue combined with his slow and well articulated way of speaking makes the wonder and delicious delight of his words yet more enjoyable. His sense of Spirituality coupled with the importance of being grounded in the physical makes his work not only inspiring but directly applicable to living. I listen to everything I can written and read by him

Love the message and the messenger

It is rare to find a book/recording that allows the resonance of the message to be matched so eloquently with the authors voice.
This marries the two together as John shares deeply the gifts within the darkness and healing gifts relating to pain and suffering.

John at his best

I always fully enjoy John’s wisdom. He always has something for me in his lectures. I wish that John had met and known my father. They would have had long and fascinating conversations. Maybe they have met now and are having those long and fascinating conversations that they did not have when they were with us.
