Most people spend their whole lives preparing to die without consciously realizing it, and although I love the rat race, it’s a fact that most wealth accrued over one’s lifetime is basically sold for pennies on the dollar in estate sales upon death as those getting meager inheritances are busy living their lives in combination with not being bothered by the loss of human lives and the vultures circling to divvy up what little wealth is left from the deceased. It’s a fact, whether one is rich or poor, that most end-of-life experiences are quite similar in that we surrender to God or this life while getting medical treatment that was standardized post-WWII in the 1950s. For-profit medicine makes a great deal of sense for experimental and cosmetic procedures, but this accounts for a fraction of actual medical treatment and societal health. Basic healthcare, fighting bacterial infections and viruses, is a must for any government because humans are essentially a troop of upright walking apes, and this is necessary to stop the spread of infectious diseases globally, minimizing epidemics and pandemics. Allowing politicians and bankers to make health decisions is a crime against humanity, as they are untrained to do so and typically base decisions on populism and economics, which have nothing to do with human health. Independent wealth is an illusion that has been created to entice people to engage in upward mobility in society, and this is a good thing. The reality is that all people, rich or poor, are a paycheck from living on the street and meet the same end. Yesterday was history, and tomorrow is always a mystery. We need upward mobility in society, but the core focus of one’s life shouldn’t be enslaving people as landowners and employers. We do need places to live and jobs to work at, but in a well-functioning economy with affordable housing, these should be plentiful. The main responsibilities of government are safety, human health, and education, and although there will always be a few who have lots and more have nots, we all meet the same fate in the end. Savvy investors realize that diversification can help fight against uncertainty and inflation, but also realize that staying nimble, renting, and continuing one’s education can lead to better outcomes than accruing wealth in an antiquated system that worked in an economic reality that existed centuries ago. Upward mobility in society is important, but being independently wealthy is really a fallacy, as landowners need people to rent, employers need people to work, and governments need tax revenue. As citizens, we must demand basic healthcare, affordable housing, and education, and as individuals, we must invest in personal and familial outcomes that led to a better, healthier future in which we can navigate the economies and headwinds that are certain to come as we march through life.
