Story
Perfectionism is a naturally limiting mindset. For example, kids are taught to color inside the lines, and any color outside the lines is considered a mistake that must be corrected. Imperfectionism frees us to live outside the lines, where possibilities are infinite, mistakes are allowed, and self-judgment is minimal.

One afternoon - after another failed attempt to get motivated to exercise - I (accidentally) started my first mini habit. I initially committed to do one push-up, and it turned into a full workout. I was shocked. This "stupid idea" wasn't supposed to work. I was shocked again when my success with this strategy continued for months (and to this day). I had to consider that maybe I wasn't the problem in those 10 years of mediocre results. Maybe it was my prior strategies that were ineffective, despite being oft-repeated as "the way to change" in countless books.

Most of us believe that we will finally feel satisfied and content with our lives when we get the good news we have been waiting for, find a healthy relationship, or achieve one of our personal goals. However, this rarely happens. Good fortune is often followed by negative emotions that overtake us and result in destructive behaviors.

Story
As high achievers, we’ve been conditioned to believe that the path to success is paved with relentless work. That if we want to overachieve, we have to overexert, overthink, and overdo. That if we aren’t perpetually exhausted, we’re not doing enough. But lately, working hard is more exhausting than ever. And the more depleted we get, the more effort it takes to make progress. Stuck in an endless loop of “Zoom, eat, sleep, repeat”, we’re often working twice as hard to achieve half as much.

Present moment awareness is an essential ingredient in life if one expects to experience any degree of authentic peace and contentment. It has been acknowledged for centuries as the cornerstone of spiritual awakening in all traditions of Eastern thought. In the West, however, it is still a relatively unrecognized concept for living. The Western mind is always restless, never content with the moment.

Story
Cognitive behavioral therapy is a type of psychotherapy that works around the assumption that there are simply some behaviors that cannot be controlled through conscious thought alone. In fact, it posits that all behaviors actually occur thanks to a mixture of internal and external stimuli and a lifetime of conditioning in one of an infinite number of ways and offers up numerous different exercises that can be done on your own as a way to replace negative habits with positive ones.

Publisher's Summary
Over the years, self-reflection has acquired a bad reputation. They have taught us that focusing alone is destructive and leads to narcissism, the culmination of my first attitude, regardless of the circumstances of the individual. Only the approach, self-criticism, and self-reflection are different.
Focus only on the outside world and oneself. Self-criticism, however, goes further in the process by examining yourself and your work from a critical angle. Still, there is neither evaluation nor application, but simply what does not work, no matter what is happening under it. Surface, because we do not collapse and do not clutter in the void.
It is essential to keep in mind that life does not always go according to plan, but it is still useful to understand why or how events go wrong because the moment of failure is an opportunity to learn, improve, and use a different course of action and more money.
Self-reflection allows you to take the time you need, accelerate your life, pause and think about where you are, where you are going and what you are doing.
Often, we do not leave time to remember where we are in life, and without self-reflection, we will never realize our dreams and, therefore, we will risk following a path or direction that we never think.
Presented in logical order, this audiobook covers critical topics like:
- How to take action without the fear
- What drives people to act
- What is self-criticism
- What is the importance of self-criticism
- How to know oneself
- How to stop worrying
- What is the perfection needed to be imperfect
- And more...

All of it comes from perfect audio book
I found this book to be very good. It's thought provoking, relevant, and I like the strategies outlined. I think is very at taking research and other ideas, consolidating it to what is most relevant and providing fresh new insights. I love that. And I appreciate the humor mixed in. The ideas for action presented are attainable and I like that there are options, not just One Way.

Best audible book perfectionism
one of the best books I have ever listen. The way this book is organized and presented was the clearest way I have ever been presented with the affliction of perfectionism. By the end of the first section, I felt that Stephen had defined it in a way that made me see it from many different facets, and I felt incredibly aware of the insidious nature of perfectionism. In the second section I felt inspired and willing to take the steps he outlines to break out of it.

This book is perfect for someone like me who is paralyzed by perfectionism. I recall a time in my life when I was creative and messy and I was happy. Then came self where I felt exactly that— messy. While the stories do intersect because the charact
While the stories do intersect because the characters turn up in each others' stories, sometimes briefly, sometimes centrally, the suggestion implied by "a novel" that you're listening to a forward-moving narrative that explores a central conflict or tension is spurious.
