In a future world, vampires reign. Humans are blood cattle. And one girl will search for the key to save humanity.

Allison Sekemoto survives in the Fringe, the outermost circle of a vampire city. By day, she and her crew scavenge for food. By night, any one of them could be eaten.

Some days, all that drives Allie is her hatred of them. The vampires who keep humans as blood cattle. Until the night Allie herself is attacked - and given the ultimate choice. Die or become one of the monsters.

Faced with her own mortality, Allie becomes what she despises most. To survive, she must learn the rules of being immortal, including the most important: go long enough without human blood, and you will go mad.

Then Allie is forced to flee into the unknown, outside her city walls. There she joins a ragged band of humans who are seeking a legend - a possible cure to the disease that killed off most of humankind and created the rabids, the mindless creatures who threaten humans and vampires alike.

But it isn't easy to pass for human. Especially not around Zeke, who might see past the monster inside her. And Allie soon must decide what - and who - is worth dying for.

I usually steer clear of young adult books, but I am glad I listened to this book. Great storyline, interesting characters which were insightfully written, and a world which develops as the the story unfolds. Was sad to see the book come to an end, and will definitely check out the next book of the series.

Very pleasantly surprised. Good Book!!

Would you consider the audio edition of The Immortal Rules to be better than the print version?

I have not read the print book, but I believe the audio version would be better. The acting and talent of the narrator (to me) made listening to the story so enjoyable! I can't imagine - just reading the book. I think I would get confused with all the different characters.

What did you like best about this story?

Original. Numerous characters who each could have their own back story. Dystopian + Vampire - two topics that were well mixed and creatively written. Story drew me in. There was a real story. There was balance between the scenery, the characters, the inner and external happiness and conflict of the people in the book. Not focused on erotica as many of the existing vampire series have - which are there own sub genre..but my intellect starves after a while w/ those books

What about Therese Plummer’s performance did you like?

I've been an audiophile practically my whole life. So I have listened to a lot of narrators. Therese Plummer was outstanding. Simply put, her ability to act out ~20 different characters (and do it WELL) made this book fantastic.ADVISE FOR WRITER: DO WHATEVER YOU NEED TO DO TO ENSURE THIS PERSON READS YOUR SERIES!!!

*SPOILER FREE*
I was shocked by how much I enjoyed this book, especially with how different it ended up being to what I had anticipated. It keeps a good pace, is decently creepy, and has some really interesting world building. It follows a couple tropes, but if you're generally a fan of vampire/dystopian with a romance subplot these tropes shouldn't bother you. Really, my only beef is that I was far more interested in the setting that the story started out with, and got a bit annoyed when it was abandon to a slightly more formulaic story line. But in the end I believe the author did a good job of keeping it interesting!

Didn't go where I thought, but in a good way
