Life Changing.. and saving !

Having struggled almost 40 years of my life with mental health, various illnesses, sadness, and multiple suicide attempts, Wim Hofs pure honesty in this book is what has made me believe in life, love and myself, for the very first time ever. I listened to it the first time and sobbed through most of it, if you are open then it resonates to your core. I have it on repeat now and I practise the breathing and cold showers daily and I am for the first time in my life Happy, Strong and Healthy. Much love to all who believe, and those who don't. Everyone's journey in life is different but science speaks. Wim is a miracle... I am a Miracle... YOU ARE A MIRACLE... Eternal gratitude to you, Wim 🙏

wim is a Legend . saved my life .

at last Wim Hof what more do I need to say. I found this book at exactly the right time. just when I had almost given up not knowing how to deal with the darkness that had overcome me over the last few years. waking in a morning and driving to work thinking every day of a reason to carry on. knowing that things just wasnt right but couldn't find the reason for it. then this.. I could have skipped right to the breathing exercise"s but decided to start at the beginning. Wim spoke for the first few lines I thought who is this man his strong accent was at first a little hard for me to understand but then I was taken on a journey I just didn't want to stop. not another crap self help book. he sparked an interest in my mind. I listened to his tragic life story about his wife but there is something about Wim. how he discovered this. how he was ignored but just wouldn't go away. his mental focus is second to none.
I eventually got to session 9 and becoming the alchemist. everything I had listened to had prepared me for this. I did the breathing with Wim guiding me and carried on for the next 20 mins I opened my eyes and felt amazing. this is for me without a doubt I thought the dark cloud was lifting at last I have found the way I can remember thinking. and I still practice the breathing regularly the cloud has gone my life is back on track I'm happy and have many reasons to live for. it is simple it is incredible and it works. it saved my life and I will be forever in debt to the man who refused to give up and wrote this book to enlighten the world.

almost identical to the wim hoff method

Great book and very interesting, however, not worth reading if you have already read the wim hoff method as it is almost identical.

Life changing

I love the audiobook. I love Wim Hof. I love the method. Thank you Wim. You have made it all so simple. Since starting practising the cold showers and breathing 9 days ago I am experiencing a beautiful, clear, consistent flow of energy. I have been practising meditation and seeking truth for 14 years but Wim’s method has literally blown my mind.

Get the book and get in the cold water.

"Breathe Mofo's!"

Wim Hof is passionate and entertaining. I am a practitioner and advocate of the WHM. However, this book is very thin on practical guidance on the actual WHM, as well as repetative and long winded in explaining a very simple point: take cold showers and "breathe mofo's!"

A different duck in the pond

Wim talks a lot about love and peace, but he doesn't talk with a lot of love and peace. Instead, in this expletive laden monologue he comes across as an ageing hippie, rather a throwback to the sixties. He has a high opinion of himself as a man on a mission to save humanity no less. It starts positively enough with a biography of his early life, interest in yoga and other disciplines, then details the various scientific studies of which he has been the subject. I spent hours waiting for him to give the actual techniques that he endlessly raves about. In fact, inexplicably there is almost no practical guidance, just at the very end. His technique is basically thirty deep breaths first thing in the morning followed by holding your breath, then three minutes in a cold shower. That's it, in a few seconds I just gave you virtually all the practical guidance in the book.

Wim's USP of course is the cold. On breathing he is a little more shaky. His technique is not an advanced kriya pranayama, it is literally just thirty deep breaths. When doing the breathing exercise he says it doesn't matter if you breathe in and out through the nose or mouth, though he personally prefers the nose. This is bad advice for anyone who is asthmatic, who definitely should not breathe through the mouth, though elsewhere in the book he claims his technique works for asthma as well as many other medical conditions (incidentally, if you do happen to be asthmatic I thoroughly recommend techniques in the book Close Your Mouth by Patrick McKeown, also on Audible, which from personal experience I know does work).

There's plenty to criticise with Wim and many contradictions in his monologue. For example, he goes on about his imperviousness to cold in one chapter, then in another he relates how he nearly lost half his foot to frostbite in the Himalayas. I've heard that science is starting to recognise cold therapy as beneficial for some ailments. Possibly there's something in this, but when he talks about curing cancer, etc. I wonder whether you can get that from cold showers and a bit of deep breathing? Wim himself takes it much further and regularly immerses himself not just in cold water, but under ice. How many others will take it this far I'm not sure.

Wim repeatedly tells us that he is just a normal guy, though a little different from others (a different duck in the pond, to quote a Dutch saying) who has found an extraordinary technique. I think the most extraordinary thing is not so much the method, but Wim himself. He undoubtedly has been capable of some amazing feats of cold endurance. It will be interesting to see what mainstream science makes of his cold therapy. I feel he is on to something, but this audiobook is one that needs to be listened to with a clear sense of reason.

Love the guy but he loves to ramble

There was clearly no planning that went into this book. Wim just ran with it and started talking. He has all the makings of a brilliant story to tell here. Unfortunately because Wim just goes with whatever pops into his head he keeps jumping from one area of his life to another, you can never really follow the journey and he frequently repeats himself. Realistically, if the book was half the size it would be much more coherent.

That being said... I did finish the book. I just used it as my daily dose of Wim rather than following the book as a story. He has a truly captivating energy and his stuff really works!

I'll try doing instead of reading/listening..

lacking insight. Hoping for inspiration and a story.

Within the first few chapters I realized this is a book about a guy who jumps in freezing water over and over again.

Better to do than to read/listen.

difficult to listen to

a bit of a rambling collection of stories rather than a flowing book. Wim seems to have built quite a following though so I was expecting better

Could not finish it.

Unfortunately Wim Hof rambles too much. Talks for the sake of talking and repeats himself frequently. This book could have been half this size. If it was, I might have made it though. The content is most definatly interesting, it just gets lost in the ever wandering ramble.
If you are time poor or selective with how you spend your time, this book may not be for you.
