Very good book

After reading this book, the movie seems terrible. I was able to get through it in 3 days.

Gripping 'read'.

Great narration, terrific story, engrossing tale. Forgot how much MORE in book than movie! :-)

An absolute modern classic

Loved the movie since I was a kid, and the book, unsurprisingly, is even better. The storyline is much more complex and involved. The narration is very good, understandable, suspenseful, and the ability to instantly change accents really helps stay 'in the moment'

Outstanding

Better than the film. And, yes, it's pronounced "Rahmeus", not "Raymeus" as it was poorly handled in the film. Where was the author? Where was at least a Russian consultant?

Have you ever heard a Russian say "DAY"? No, they say, "DAH".

Duh.

Sorry but that irritates me. This narrator got it right.

I only took off a star because the story drags in the second half, especially toward the ending, and it wasn't enough for Clancy to knock the Russians down, but he had to be kicking them in the ribs over and over? Come on. It was overdone. That's my only gripe.

Clancy and Brick - a perfect pairing

Unquestionably, Scott Brick was meant to read Tom Clancy. I last read this book some 30 years ago and Scott Brick made it come alive once again. Fantastic book with a simply brilliant performance.

The movie is better

Don't get me wrong, the book is really good, but boy the government acronyms really slow things down! If you don't mind that, it's a great story, but I really recommend the movie - it's just the good parts! :D

This also goes for "The Name of the Rose", a fabulous but extremely involved book that made me wish I had multiple history, art history and ancient language degrees. The movie with Sean Connery is just the "good parts" version.

Great!!

This movie was a go to for spending time with my father. The reading if this and the story itself was outstanding. Through the whole reading I was reminded of spending a lazy afternoon with my father.

Great story, but a bit of foul language.

The story is masterfully written, the detail of the cultures within the soviet and the US armed services is fascinating. Most of the story takes place at sea aboard subs and ships so quite a lot of salty language ensues. I don’t doubt it is accurate for how many seamen talk but I could have done without so many F words.

A Great Story

I was surprised at how close the movie was to the book. The narrator did a wonderful job representing the characters.

Listening made it easier

I have attempted to read this book over a Dozen times back when I was in school. It was a very boring and tedious read and I had a horrible time getting into the book.

Listening to this book was so easy. I didn’t have to struggle with Russian words or the detailed descriptions of the military equipment.

Scott Brick is a fantastic narrator. His different accents made the book very enjoyable.

All in all I am very pleased with the 3rd book of the series and I am glad I have finally been able to get through this one.

Now for the next!
