Paisley Parker Mathison, 23 year old, Beta, to his older brother, Derek and the Moonstone Pack. In the year 2042, Human's and werewolves are allies after a four decade long war with the witches. Human's were born with a gene making them capable of mating with werewolves. When Parker was born he received what is known as the Alpha's Mate Mark. His mark appeared on his left rib cage, while his has only a distinct matching mark to his mate, his mate has his initials and how old Parker will be when they have to meet.
Parker found out the truth about his mark when he was 16 and he freaked out, naturally, he was raised as a future Beta. One who would never submit to anyone other than his rightful packs Alpha. As was intended. He ran away from home to escape only to be captured by rogues. He spent two long years in captivity being abused and tortured. Once they let him go and he was rescued by his family and pack he spent his time getting therapy so he would stop lashing out and physically attacking people. He finished his high school GED before he was allowed to take over his Beta position. He took an entire year to go from the weak submissive physical form to the tall muscular Beta that he finally felt comfortable with.
Now after spending five years in his own territory, never leaving and putting himself at risk, the council has figured out that he has an Alpha's mark. He was 23 and had missed 5 years of participating in the mandatory running of the mates, or the Hunt, as he knew it. Two days before the annual hunt was due to take place he was summoned by the council to the place of "immense honor".
