Not sure how to feel about this one. It's weird and takes an almost incestuous turn. Then they whine because they can't, kinda gross. Alison whines so much and acts only bad things happen to her when they don't. She annoyed me through the entire book.

Then the end gets even weirder when it didn't need to be

For a story titled “The House on the Water’s Edge” I want anyone reading this to be aware there is almost nothing in this entire story about the house near the water.
There are a couple of short, descriptive paragraphs about being out on a boat in the water, and a dream sequence involving the river but beyond that nothing.
Instead, there’s an excessive amount of discussion about difficult (graphically so) childbirth, and this comes up so many times I lost count.
I truly heard the term “collapsed pelvic floor” more than 3 times in this book.
It’s all about pregnancy, nursing, recovery from childbirth, and then….things go even more off track into basically incest.
Yes, so to call this a story about a house by the water is absurd, ridiculous.
It is literally false advertising to give this weird story a title like this.
It is so misleading.
This story had almost NOTHING to do with a “House By The Water” but is actually a story that is oddly fixated on female anatomy, child birth, and ultimately incest.
Truly one of the weirdest books I’ve ever listened to.
If this had been a great listen, a well told or particularly well written book I wouldn’t take such issue with the title.
But this was sadly just not good.
The characters weren’t particularly interesting, and even the two that had the potential to be thought provoking characters are only on the periphery.
I was disappointed.
Things start out ok, and the narration is good but when we start with the incessant talk of childbirth, bottle feeding versus nursing, labor and delivery, just enough is enough.
Then right about the time you’ve truly had it with all that talk we delve into essentially an incestuous relationship between the main character and someone else.
I couldn’t.
I almost finished it. I think there were about 6 chapters left when I finally threw in the towel.
Sorry, I really don’t like saying anything negative about any author’s work because I’m pretty sure I couldn’t write a novel and get it published.
But people shouldn’t be mislead by book titles and summaries that convince you you’re about to read an interesting tale about a house on water and instead you get the aforementioned.
No dice.
I want my credit back.
