Publisher's summary

The house at 889 Morgan Road has been empty almost 30 years. Maybe it should have stayed that way.

Kevin Taylor is an Internet-famous handyman on a mission: Find a house and renovate it in 30 days. By flipping a derelict house in a month's time and chronicling the entire thing on video for his online subscribers, he seeks to impress a handful of network TV producers and become a star.

The problems that plague this property will require more than elbow grease to fix, however.

Shadows throughout the home are distorted, and an enigmatic trespasser keeps showing up in his footage. Worse still are the hideous voices that issue from otherwise empty rooms in the dead of night.

Amid mounting dangers, Kevin is forced to meet the house's shadowed past head-on - a past, he begins to suspect, he wants nothing to do with. Armed only with the hearsay of locals and the frightening clues he's uncovered within the home, he attempts to find out what led to the house's abandonment while juggling his strenuous renovation projects.

What he uncovers is horrible beyond imagination. All signs seem to be pointing to one thing:

Something in the house is awakening.

The First Book to Actually Scare Me!

I loved this book. I listened to and read many horror books in my time. This is the first to ever scare me. Several times, it gave me chills and had me looking over my shoulder. I highly recommend it. I'll be listening to the sequel next.

I really enjoyed this book

I love watching Youtube videos. This book brings the world of Youtube type videos into the story. Kevin Taylor has a video channel on the web where he fixes up and flips houses. He shows his viewers tips and tricks for home improvement. Kevin finds and extremely cheap house needing a Mr. Fixit, and decides this house might just be the one to get him a network TV show. He has no idea about the past of the home but will soon find out.

I was actually surprised by the ending but will not go into why. Let me just says Ambrose Ibsen has done it again. I love his books and Joe Hempel does another amazing job narrating this book.

It started when he bought the house....

Ambrose Ibsen is quickly becoming the Prince of Creepy! Handyman Kevin Taylor buys an old house hoping to renovate it in one weekend and chronicle the whole thing for his YouTube Channel to impress network execs and to flip the house quickly.

But the house has other things in mind....Kevin finds a skeleton hidden in a wall. A ghostly image keeps turning up on his videos, horrible voices are heard and more ghostly presences appear and disappear. Kevin tries to find out about the house's past, while still trying to keep on schedule with the renovations, but as the mysteries of the house are revealed, Kevin finds something horrible beyond imagination!

Ibsen knows how to creep you out when reading or listening to his books. But that is what keeps bringing me back. That and the fantastic narration by Joe Hempel, a narrator who has quickly taken over the genre and does a great job of narrating it. Always just the right amount of tension and humor, he embodies the characters.

If you are an Ibsen or Hempel fan, pick this one up and enjoy!

A Great Creepy Read

The House of Long Shadows
House of Souls, Book 1
By: Ambrose Ibsen
Narrated by: Joe Hempel
This is an audible book I requested and the review is voluntary.
This book is so creepy and good! A youtuber-type house flipper wants a show on tv. By completing this house, he has a chance, but the house wasn't empty. It is so freaky! Lots of craziness! He is fixing this house by himself! The ending was quite a twist!
The narrator was wonderful and added so much to the story. He made all the voices so unique! He added tension and emotion to the story at just the right times! Terrific job.

Had me jumping at shadows!

Blasted book! Had me jumping around at shadows! LOL Very good, I am extremely impressed with Mr. Ibsen's writings, and am SO glad I stumbled across a freebie of his to introduce me his dark world! I know that haunted/possessed house stories aren't' exactly unique, but he manages to put a delightfully terrifying spin on his, and I love them!

Do I even need to bother commenting on our illustrious narrator at this point? He's awesome. He is the impersonation of the these great characters.

Story Fell Apart Towards The End

This story was scary and made me glad I wasn't listening alone in the dark. I like the way the writer gets into the main character's head. The story had a good beginning and middle, however, it fell apart towards the end. The ending was disappointing for me, but I like happy endings. Joe Hempel is an excellent narrator.

Interesting listen

Spread out over a few car rides, this book was a good listen. FYI - that is an inaccurate use of “Code Brown” in the book. Ha ha!
