Publisher's Summary

"Hot Box" is a baseball drill that can be played with three or more players and two to four bases. The players take turns being fielders and runners, ultimately trying to tag the rest of the players out. In The Hot Box, best friends Milena and Lydia are playing the game with Jacour, Yosef, Glenn, and Phil. The only problem: the men do not realize that they are playing.

Milena lives a sheltered and dismal existence and has not allowed a man to touch her body in eight years...until now. Lydia dreams of getting away from small-town America but, until she can make that happen, she is prepared to do whatever it takes to continue to have her bills paid...on time. Good sex always does the trick.

Two women. Four men. Two love triangles. Listening has never been this hot because, once again, Zane is taking you outside the box.

Critic Reviews

"Arguably not since the emergence of Nancy Friday has American letters produced a purveyor of erotica with such mass-market appeal". ( The New York Times)

Great Book

This book is for open minded people who are familar with Erotica or her work. This is not the traditional Harlequin Romance, this is straight up Erotica done in a refreshing and comical way.

Finally, I am introduced to Zane by audible.com. I have for years, years wanted to read her books, but I could never find the time. The writer's story in itself is amazing, i.e. becoming a best selling author later in her life.

I thoroughly enjoyed this book. The story is raw, honest and "realtalk" for adults. The candor and exspite language of the book is shocking but so over the top
is comedical at times, which is what I think the author wants. You can't help but to be laugh at Lydia's complete inhibition in all areas of life. Lydia looks at life and her sexuality
which resembles "traditional male sexuality. I would call Lydia a Rakehell or Libertine. I loved Malena and empathized with her on several levels.

Struggling!

The storyline is too slow and the narrators voice is extremely annoying. Not what I expected

Unrealistically Real!!!!

Anyone who has read Zane knows that her work is full of explicit sex. This read is no different. This read took me on an up and down roller coaster ride that almost made me jump off the coaster toward the end.

Lydia... Lydia... Lydia... (smh)!!!! Her ways are very questionable but maybe reasoned (by some) by her small town upbringing. Small towns have a limited supply of men so why not creep with her live in man's best friend. But, the better question is who is he creeping with?

Milena often annoyed me. She put her love life on hold for 8 years due to the decisions of her ex. Then he reappears with the assumption that Milena is his. Now her way of dodging him threw me for a loop and kind of seemed unrealistic, but I get where Zane was going. The author was attempting to shine a light on those in Yosef's situation, and show how some of us have a misconception for certain people in certain situations.

"He left the car and walked off down the road, never to be seen or heard from again."
~ Milena

Now this is where Zane lost me. I was tempted to just throw the whole book away. What kept me going is the fact that I was literally 30 minutes from the end. Milena's character went from annoying me because she was being reserved for a man that hurt her to annoying because she was being lose with the same man that hurt her. Let's just say I am happy with the ending and happy I stuck with it.

Now to be honest I do recommend this read to others, but I would not read it again. Oh and, the narration was great.

Great read!

What did you love best about The Hot Box?

I loved the story and how it causes us to realize that what we may think is good for us may not be.

Who was your favorite character and why?

I love Lidia's character. She is funny and very real/

What about Simi Howe and Krystal King ’s performance did you like?

Their performances were great. I would have preferred to have an actual male voice to do the male parts but they gave a great effort.

Was this a book you wanted to listen to all in one sitting?

Yes.
