CEV not KJV - Picture is correct

Thank you for the review that mentioned the not always included Deuterocanical books (Apocrypha) were part of this version - it helped me choose this one and explains the extra time added to this reading. The sample provides a good idea on what to expect from the overall listening experience, so if you like what you hear and are ok with the CEV, you will probably appreciate this presentation. There are 15 different downloads. I have not listened to all of it but downloaded different sections to sample the readers and find the start of the New Testament which is in download Part 13, Chapter 8. The different male and female readers speak clearly and are comparable to the sample.

It would be really very nice to have chapter titles that match what is being read, but I chose not to knock off any stars for it as most versions aren't any different in this format. I was not specifically looking for any particular version but wanted no music, no overly theatrical readings and if possible, the Apocrypha included. I grew up Presbyterian so those books were always included in the Bible's used in my church, so while not necessary, I like having them there. There is no breakout ever in the description of who reads what books but you have it here in the chapter intros on this one. The CEV is similar to the NLT version as far as translations go, so it makes this more of a pleasure reading version. This is definitely not the KJV so please keep that in mind if considering this one at all. I will still look for a complete KJV or RSV on Audible, but this one makes for a nice change of pace.

CHAPTER LIST INCLUDED nice for everyday listening

This is a very modern translation so I wouldn't use it for bible studying but its great for everyday listening and getting a general message of each event. I like this performance better than the dramatized version I also have because this is less distracting.
I did not hear any chapter repeats like some other reviewers stated so maybe they fixed that?
Also, the chapters do not skip around, they just listed all the Deuteroconcanical books at the end of the OT.
Here is a chapter list, hope it helps!

Repeating chapters

It was very annoying that first half of audiobook repeated every chapter...every single chapter up to 50 something. Fix this please!

It's the CEV Bible -- Contemporary English Version

Would you listen to The Holy Bible again? Why?

Sure

Who was your favorite character and why?

Jesus

Any additional comments?

This is NOT the King James Version of the Holy Bible. It's actually the Contemporary English Version. The deuterocanonical books are included. It's a pleasant surprise to find that the Book of Sirach is read by Nelson Runger.

Terrible formatting

Chapters, verse, and even books are out of place. Don't buy this unless you want to be frustrated.

However, this is well portrayed by excellent narrators.

Divided in chapters

This is difficult to navigate since it is divided in random chapters not related to bible’s books or chapters from the printed version. We can’t find specific places in the Bible based on the way the divided in chapters. I returned it and would not recommend it.

This is not a regular 𝙱𝚒𝚋𝚕𝚎

It’s an interpretation of the Bible, some which are no accurate. Almost Midway thru Old Testament each verse ( not an actual verse but was announced as a verse) was repeated! This was most annoying.
Every two the same reading.

Nice dynamic equivalence translation

No translation of the Bible is perfect. The Contemporary English Version (CEV) is
a dynamic equivalence translation: it takes the ancient Hebrew, Greek and Aramaic
and attempts to distill its meaning and tone in modern, plain English. No easy task!

I have compared passages of the CEV to more popular standard Bible translations
and the "spirit" of text comes to life even if the wording seems different. For me,
the essential meaning is not "lost in translation".

The CEV sounds wonderful read out loud by a good narrator. It flows like a story
book. It will not confound young adults or children as much as the King James or
Douay-Rheims with archaic expressions. Nor will its simple language bore adults.
Just my opinion, of course. Your impressions may differ.

I have not listened to all of the narrators but I like the ones I've encountered in
this production.

My only reservation was the chapters in the Table of Contents. There is no way
to turn efficiently to any book or verse. The numbered chapters are not marked
with the names of the books. Very time-consuming.

best Bible for listening to

This is one of the reasons I signed up for Audible. I listen to the Bible everyday now. This version is so relatable and all the different voices make it easy to listen to everyday.
I just finished and I'll start over at the beginning. It took me about a year to get through it.
