Publisher's summary

Charlotte Holmes, Lady Sherlock, returns in the Victorian-set mystery series from the USA Today best-selling author of A Conspiracy in Belgravia and A Study in Scarlet Women, an NPR Best Book of 2016.

Under the cover of "Sherlock Holmes, consulting detective", Charlotte Holmes puts her extraordinary powers of deduction to good use. Aided by the capable Mrs. Watson, Charlotte draws those in need to her and makes it her business to know what other people don't.

When the estranged wife of her dear friend Lord Ingram is discovered dead on his estate, all signs point to him as the murderer. With Scotland Yard closing in, Charlotte goes under disguise to find out the truth.

Delicious

This book is perfection. It's as if the pastry chef from a Michelin three-star restaurant set a dessert tray at your table and then remarked that you didn't have to choose; taste everything, and take your time doing it. Books 1 and 2 of the series were lovely, but this one is the absolute best. Kate Reading's narration is superb -- an understatement, but how many times can you say 'perfect' in one paragraph?
If you enjoy a well-crafted plot, fascinating characters, and dialogue that would make Oscar Wilde smile, try this.

timeline was not that confusing

the flashbacks were not confusing , just added to the tension tension. the narrator keeps the characters straight and you get multiple pov.

Such a fantastic series

I cannot get enough of this series. It is so well written, so well performed and so mirror perfect to the Sherlock Holmes stories that even Sir Author Conan Doyle would not have much room to complain. Charlotte is the absolute perfect female embodiment of her male predecessor.

There are moments in this book that make me laugh out loud, gasp, get angry, and sometimes cringe. There are also moments I sit in my car listening instead of going into my house, or into work because -whatever the digital equivalent of “I cannot put the book down”is.

If you love the mystery, add romance where Sherlock does not, keep and expand the wit and erstwhile irreverence in historical fiction, this is the series on which you’re looking to binge. Just don’t blame me for being late to clock in every day.

Series gets better and better

Books one and two were terrific, but this one is just amazing. Charlotte and Ash’s characters deepen and expand. Livia is becoming quite fascinating. The plot twists and turns, in all the right places. The discussion of women and their roles and expectations during the period is handled adroitly. And the narrator? Just sublime.

Confused

I admit I still am not sure what was going on in this story.
It jumped all over the place, people died that did not die, feelings were expressed that were later changed.
I love Kate’s narration. And I love the characters. It is just the confusing storyline I do not like.
I really do not wish to invest hours listening to the whole thing again to try and figure out what happened.

Love this series of books!

Best books I’ve heard in a long time. Misters, love, and sex without all the graphics that I don’t want or need to hear. Also very entertaining.
