Publisher's summary

The epic conclusion to the Swords and Saints trilogy.

In a ruined temple on a dying world, a man without a past promised the Red Sword of her tribe that he would protect her daughter...and then he lost her.

Flung into a very different world, Talin had been forced to navigate this strange new realm as he searched for the girl Valyra. His journey had taken him from Ysala to the Twilight Empire, from the golden grasslands where monsters prowled to the haunted undercity of Zim. He had held true to his word, finally rescuing her from the Shriven, who wished to use her sorcery to heal the paths between the worlds.

But after a betrayal by one of his companions, she is now in the clutches of the mysterious Contessa, and he must once again return to the City of Masks. Only now, the fate of the world hangs in the balance.

Great series

Loved the pacing of the series. Great characters. Overall I enjoyed the series. I’m happy the not so dark ending I thought would come didn’t.

The unraveling

I did like the ending of the series but I wish our H could go more than a day or two without getting captured.

I enjoyed it; you might not

I enjoyed the first book in this series but was less impressed with the second book, which was kind of all over the place. My main complaint by the end of the second book was that we got this really interesting setup with gateways into other worlds, etc. but then these are barely ever used or touched upon which felt like kind of a waste. Well, in this book they finally get around to going to new interesting places and the results were more like what I originally wanted. The journey to the climax was fun, but the end of the book may have been just a little too over the top for the author to handle- it felt more like the vague ending to a JRPG than a solid sword & sorcery series ending (seriously, they might have well of played Final Fantasy boss fight music in the second to last chapter.) Additionally, the book just sort of abruptly ends without explaining what the heck just happened- a series like this really needed more of an epilogue. However, these gripes really didn't change how much I enjoyed the series overall and this book in particular, and I'd definitely recommend them for anyone looking for a more imaginative S&S diversion.

Worst ending ever

What was this? The MC's inner monolog just confuses the story. Nothing gets answered.

Captured and lost my sword the series.

The narrator is good. The writing is good, but good God man, can the main character walk across the street without getting kidnapped and losing his sword?! You could make a drinking game out of every time he looses his sword, gets captured, or knocked unconscious. Three books of this nonsense man. Mix it up some.
