On January 30th, 1933, Adolf Hitler was appointed the German chancellor of a coalition government by President Hindenburg. Within a few months, he had installed a dictatorship, jailing and killing his leftwing opponents, terrorizing the rest of the population and driving Jews out of public life. He embarked on a crash program of militaristic Keynesianism, reviving the economy and achieving full employment through massive public works, vast armaments spending, and the cancellations of foreign debts. After the grim years of the Great Depression, Germany seemed to have been reborn as a brutal and determined European power.

Over the course of the years from 1933 to 1939, Hitler won over most of the population to his vision of a renewed Reich. In these years of domestic triumph, cunning maneuvers, pitting neighboring powers against each other and biding his time, we see Hitler preparing for the moment that would realize his ambition. But what drove Hitler's success was also to be the fatal flaw of his regime: a relentless belief in war as the motor of greatness, a dream of vast conquests in Eastern Europe, and an astonishingly fanatical racism.

I read many history about hitler and this is one of my favorite books

Advert, I have read dozens upon dozens and books with the vineyard, Republican, the rise and with all of Hitler, and such, this is a very good addition to that collection.\nI'm not having a stroke.I just do these and voice to text have a good day

The best of its kind!!!!! Thrilling.

The only thing that would have made it better is if Frank McDonough himself had narrated it - with his lovely silky Liverpool accent! This is simply the Whole Shebang Vol. 1 - and accessible as all heck. Hitler - as real as any freaky psycho can be! The whole panoramic caste of characters is breathless! Am ready for Vol. II although I'm a bit scared! I know Winston is back so it' ll be OK. ✌️

Exceptionally informative and detailed telling of Hitler’s rise in 1933-1939

I particularly liked that the story is told chronologically by the year. I also liked the detail with which the events are related. I learned a lot that I have never heard before.

A Terrific History of a Dubious Time

This is a clear eyed narrative history of Hitler’s impact on Europe during the 1930s. It also includes a lot of information on his, and the Nazi party’s impact on the German people. I would consider this book as ideal for an audio book because of the narrative style taken by McDonough and the quality of the narration.
