Publisher's summary

Sheriff Walt Longmire and Henry Standing Bear embark on their latest adventure in this novella set in the world of Craig Johnson's New York Times best-selling Longmire series - the basis for the hit drama Longmire, now on Netflix.

When Wyoming highway patrolman Rosey Wayman is transferred to the beautiful and imposing landscape of the Wind River Canyon, an area the troopers refer to as no-man's-land because of the lack of radio communication, she starts receiving "officer needs assistance" calls. The problem? They're coming from Bobby Womack, a legendary Arapaho patrolman who met a fiery death in the canyon almost a half century ago.

With an investigation that spans this world and the next, Sheriff Walt Longmire and Henry Standing Bear take on a case that pits them against a legend: The Highwayman.

Favorite Book Series

What did you love best about The Highwayman?

The narrator, George Guidall, is absolutely the best in the biz! Love the various voices which he uses. He hesitates at the right place, letting the words breathe. I love all of Craig Johnson's "Longmire" books. The only bad thing is that there aren't enough of them.

Great Story

I can not stop reading all of these stories. They are all great in their own way. Craig Johnson is a gifted writer. Keep them coming! Short but still great.

I want to believe

Would you listen to The Highwayman again? Why?

I already listened and will do so again tomorrow.

Did the plot keep you on the edge of your seat? How?

More than a mystery, a little bit ghost story, and an unveiling. Had to stay with it until it was done.

Which character – as performed by George Guidall – was your favorite?

I always love Walt and Henry.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Especially grabbed by the rescue after the crash.

Any additional comments?

I want more like this, of course Craig Johnson delivers. I am a happy fan of this series.

Nice Longmire tale.

What made the experience of listening to The Highwayman the most enjoyable?

Since it's a short piece, this story was tightly focused on key people and incidents--none of that Longmire sleeping with his deputy and such, which often detracts from other Longmire stories.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Highwayman?

I liked the appearances of the coins. Eerie!

Have you listened to any of George Guidall’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

George IS Longmire. Enough said.

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

Longmire jumping into the river to save Rosie, and later saving her from death in the tunnel.

Any additional comments?

The only reason I gave four instead of five stars was the moment of revelation of the source of the radio messages. It was offered at the end so briefly that it didn't make enough sense to me. I'm going to re-listen to that last bit to see if my opinion improves. Otherwise, good story.

Fantastic series!

The writing is excellent and I enjoyed the humor as well. The narrator made the story come alive. I highly recommend these books to everyone!

short and sweet

l really enjoyed this atmospheric mystery and ghost story. I even got a little spooked while sitting alone in my car in a dark parking lot while listening to the story. The reader is the same for the Tony Hillerman novels and he's very good. This novella makes me want to read more Craig Johnson books.

short but good

It's half or maybe less as long as a normal Longmire story, but it's a good one, and I got it on sale. Think I'll try another in the series.
