Publisher's summary

In best-selling author Vanessa Kelly's irresistible Clan Kendrick series, Christmas in the Highlands means family, celebration - and for one brother, the beginning of a passionate adventure....

Being thrown over by the man she expected to marry was humiliating enough. Now that Donella Haddon, grandniece of the Earl of Riddick, has also proven a failure as a nun, she has no choice but to return to her family's estate. The brawny Highlander sent to escort her is brash, handsome, and the only thing standing between Donella and a gang of would-be kidnappers. But the scandal in her past can't be so easily outrun....

Wealthy widower Logan Kendrick was expecting to meet a plain, pious spinster - not a gorgeous, sharp-tongued lass who can hold her own in any ambush. Though she's known as the Flower of Clan Graham, Donella is no shrinking violet. In fact, she might be the perfect woman to bring happiness back to his lonely little son's life, just in time for Christmas. But first, he must protect her from ugly gossip and a mysterious threat - and convince her that their wild, unexpected desire is heaven sent.

Contains mature themes.

Wonderful series!

Vanessa Kelly is new to me as a writer. I decided to try her first book when I saw that Ruth Urquhart was the narrator. Ms Urquhart is a phenomenal narrator because she has a vast repertoire of voices with which she is able to help us easily distinguish the various characters, both male and female, and even the children’s voices. I cannot fathom how she manages to keep them all straight!

I very much enjoyed the story line of the first two books and am looking forward to reading the next two. I particularly like that the story line refers back and forth to the various family members of the Kendrick clan and we are thus apprised of their status and whereabouts. This is in keeping with the close family ties that bind this loving and warm family together.

Kudos to Ms Kelly and Ms Urquhart for providing us a most enjoyable read.

A nice and basically unproblematic read

The characters are likable. I don’t always agree with their actions but they make sense for the characters. The romance between the two leads is fun and filled with healthy banter. Nothing stuck out to me as overly problematic which is rare for a historical romance book. It’s definitely worth the read.

Very good overall!

Enjoyed for the most part but a little predictable. Would have been a little more interesting if there were more collateral damage from the old flames & more work at reconciliation. Conflicts were a little too easily resolved.

very sweet

A little slow at times but the story is very well written. You like all the characters. I really felt bad for the feeding clan's son. He is sweet if immature and naive. In my opinion it is a good listen worth your time and credit.

Narrative is very good. She did a great job 2ith Scottish accents. Male voices would sometimes sound very similar and I would mix up who was talking but that was probably my old ears.

A Holiday Must

This unputdownable holiday novel was filled to the brim with family drama, dark secrets, and a misunderstanding or two. Logan is one delicious alpha male who falls hard for his lady love.

One muddle after another led us along a merry adventure of unexpected twists. Logan and Donella were sweet together, and I couldn't wait to see how they'd conquer their happily ever after.

Too Many Modern Expressions

I hate to quibble but when I read/listen to an historical novel, I don't expect to encounter "hypochondria" or "kudos" among other modern words. That being said, I loved the story, the characters and the narration was extraordinary.

Light read

Simple plot. Heroian was deceitful ninny. Made her hard to like. The supporting characters carried the story.

Very Average

A good idea gone wrong. The story moved slowly at times, but more bothersome was a “heroine” who vacillated between lying when it suited her and becoming a put upon frail damsel when it was time to take responsibility. The “reasonable” women versus the idiot men doesn’t wash here. The voiceover made the hero sound like a slow wit.
