Publisher's summary

Joseph Campbell, arguably the greatest mythologist of the twentieth century, was certainly one of our greatest storytellers. This masterfully crafted book interweaves conversations between Campbell and some of the people he inspired, including poet Robert Bly, anthropologist Angeles Arrien, filmmaker David Kennard, Doors drummer John Densmore, psychiatric pioneer Stanislov Grof, Nobel laureate Roger Guillemen, and others. Campbell reflects on subjects ranging from the origins and functions of myth, the role of the artist, and the need for ritual to the ordeals of love and romance. With poetry and humor, Campbell recounts his own quest and conveys the excitement of his lifelong exploration of our mythic traditions, what he called “the one great story of mankind.”

Fantastic

Eye opening for the reader to understand how to approach your search on life’s “secrets”. Through the concepts of modern religious and mythical diversity, he writes in a way of great clarity.

Wonderfully invigorating for a better life

Joseph Campbell's life work is beautiful summarized in this piece. In these collected works The Listener is presented a taste of what their own mythology can be.

A great connection of world religions

The team who put this together really did Joseph Campbell well by portraying the man and his life’s work.

I recommend this book to anyone wanting to learn more about the world and its cultures/religions. It can be very eye opening. However, I’ll caution that some of what Joseph Campbell says about Christianity and Islam might be a little too generalized and not fully grasp the intent of the teachings. Regardless, this book should be read/listened to by those who live to travel, those who are surrounded by people of differing believed systems, and those who simply want to become more open minded.

There Are some great lessons about our ego and our spirits in this book as well.

Be aware that the first couple of chapters are all about the life of Joseph Campbell. The rest of the book is where the reader learns.

Grateful

I am Grateful Joseph followed his Bliss, for his Bliss has given me the language to follow my own posthumously. Thank you Joseph Campbell and all those who deemed it necessary to collect his works, wisdom, and words. I am more passionate and more invigorate after this reading. I had a thought. 'Joseph Campbell's expressed position in life represents the divine archetypes that one might envision the "Divine Father" to portray'.. A Man who lived in a timeless frame of mind that rings with Unified-Absolute-Truth. Again, thank you.
