Acerca de esta escucha
Charmaine Maeer says she was beaten and repeatedly raped during just 10 days service as a soldier at Whittington Barracks in Lichfield, Staffordshire, England.
This audiobook was first published in paperback format in 2008, and although a very harrowing and deserved story, it never received the attention it deserved due to the nature of the claims made by Charmaine Mary Nona Maeer.
Rather than go into harrowing detail in this synopsis, here are details of UK media coverage that fell on deaf ears:
News of the World - Two-page spread on November 10, 2002 - "Gang Raped on My First Day in the Army"
Real Life Magazine - "Raped on My First Day in the Army"
Carlton Central TV News - November 1, 2011
New Woman Magazine - February 21, 2003
Caters News Agency - Contracted Charmaine for TV on February 18, 2003
South West News Service
Kilroy- Now You're Talking! TV show
Bella Magazine - Full feature
ITN Channel Four News - November 15, 2002

For Kim Woodburn, finding fame in her 60s in the smash-hit television series How Clean is Your House? with fellow dust-buster Aggie Mackenzie is like living a fairytale. Often, however, she has simply wished that she had never been born, for Kim has overcome horrific emotional and physical abuse, both at the hands of her alcoholic mother and her philandering, abusive father.

I was born and broken in Birkenhead, abused from infancy by a network of every kind of pervert from ‘thinks it’s love’ to ‘show it hurts’. I was unwanted, beaten, sold, swapped, photographed, filmed, left for dead, corrupted, blamed, betrayed, ignored and orphaned. But I was also born with a fire inside me. I call it my Phoenix Fire. I am no victim—that word only describes what happened to me. Nor am I a survivor because that implies I am over it. I am a Phoenix—a work in progress. This is my story....

Historia
In 1994, an idealistic first-year teacher in Long Beach, California, named Erin Gruwell confronted a room of “unteachable, at-risk” students. She had intercepted a note with an ugly racial caricature and angrily declared that this was precisely the sort of thing that led to the Holocaust. She was met by uncomprehending looks - none of her students had heard of one of the defining moments of the 20th century. So she rebooted her entire curriculum, using treasured books such as Anne Frank’s diary as her guide to combat intolerance and misunderstanding.

Moving, harrowing, and ultimately uplifting, Lori Schiller's memoir is a classic testimony to the ravages of mental illness and the power of perseverance and courage. At 17, Lori Schiller was the perfect child - the only daughter of an affluent, close-knit family. Six years later she made her first suicide attempt, then wandered the streets of New York City dressed in ragged clothes, tormenting voices crying out in her mind. Lori Schiller had entered the horrifying world of full-blown schizophrenia.

ridiculous
Very sad that anyone would believe this story and would give it a rating of 5 stars. I only listened till the end because I was fascinated with the inaccuracies. The conspiracy that she alleges between the military enlisted, NCO's, officers, CID, MP's, civilian police, lawyers, doctors is beyond reality. This is a slap in the face to all victims of abuse.
