Publisher's summary

Communing with spirits has been both gift and curse to Emme Walters. Now it's made her a killer's target. Emme knows why the Dowager Duchess of Briarleigh invited her to a house party--to investigate whether the duke, Rhys Brammel, murdered his wife years ago. But Emme never imagined she would fall in love with the brooding duke. Branded by society as a possible killer, Rhys is suspicious of Emme and her alleged "gift." Then a late night encounter creates awareness of her other, more attractive, aspects. When Emme's life is threatened, Rhys becomes her protector. Emme and Rhys find passion and peril as they join forces to solve the mysteries at Briarleigh. She made him believe in spirits, but can she make him believe in love?

Pronounce the words right, Geez

Narrator is not even remotely in my top 10. I tolerated her and her mispronounced words. I have listened to this series before and on my second time. I enjoyed the story well enough. I like the author well enough and hope there are more as time goes. I’ve listened to her other series too.

I liked this story but I didn't love it.

The narrator did a good job especially with differentiation of characters especially impersonating male voices. Of course, she had all the other goodies down like cadence, flexion, emotion, etc. She delivered the kind of narration that made me feel like I was there and she just fell in the background as an separate entity. I suppose that is the goal of a good narrator; they are not supposed to be a distraction or overwhelm the listener.

In conclusion, the plot seemed tired to me although the paranormal aspect was a nice plot device. However, I thought the villains were pretty obvious from the start. The tale did have a good flow to it and I always like a story where the hero shows his love as Reece did in this novel. Overall, I am a fan of this author but this one wasn't my fav.

The Haunting of a Duke

This is a wonderful story filled with mystery, betrayal, friendship, love and the paranormal. The plot, storyline, was so intricately woven with detail after detail as the mystery was unraveled. It will hold your attention until the very end. I can't wait to get a hold of the follow-up story. Chastity Bowlin never disappoints. This was my first time listening to Lillian Yves as narrator. I became more accustomed to her cadence as the story moved along. She did a nice job of making the variety of voices sound believable... as in the differences between the various characters. 😀

The Haunting of a Duke

I liked this book and I am looking forward to listening to the other books in this series. I like these paranormal type books mixed in with historical romance, they’re different and interesting.

The narrator had a voice that was easy to listen to but there wasn’t much difference between the male and female voices. That being said she still did a decent job at telling this story.

good

This was a lot more than I expected. The villain was a surprise to me. I enjoyed the main characters strength and perseverance. I voluntarily listened to a free copy of this and am giving an honest review. The narrator was good

Lillian Yves is a TERRIBLE narrator!!!

The narrator means a great deal to the author of a story - if the narrator is good, it usually means the story is too. But if the narrator is terrible, as is the case with this Chasity Bowlin book - The Haunting of a Duke - it completely ruins the story! Lillian Yves read this story so poorly and she mispronounced many English words, such as "Reckticule" for reticule, "ampled" instead of ambled, and "throughfare" instead of thoroughfare. She also read in spurts such as
"There is little in the world that could not be made better with a cup of tea." and
".... from his time in the Crusades."
She also pronounced the word "maudelin" as "Maud ee lin" just like that- I'm not kidding! And the word " exhorbident" she pronounced "exhorbent"! I detested listening to her during this entire story, and the only reason I did was because I've read other books of Chastity Bowlin and they've usually been good. I understand that the author has no say in who narrates their book, but the producer or whomever it was that chose this narrator, Lillian Yves, did a terrible disservice to Chasity Bowlin!

DO NOT WASTE YOUR $$ ON THIS AUDIO

The story would've been good if it weren't for the narrator that kills this book. How anyone decided she can read well should be fired! Don't get me started on her accents that sound NOTHING like where the accent should sound like. It took me a good month+ to push myself through just to finish it. Sadly, I gave up right before the end because I couldn't take her anymore and put myself out of my misery.
