Publisher's summary

Emma is excited for her new job at Maple Mansion babysitting little Elijah. But on her first evening alone with him, Elijah asks her for money to give to a man that Emma had never heard of. Brushing it off as the child's imagination, she obliges.

Later that night, she hears men talking in the kitchen. Terrified, she looks in the kitchen, only to find no one there. Over the next few weeks, the occurrences become so terrifying that she tells Elijah's mother, who does not believe her.

As evil prevails in the mansion, Emma has a horrifying encounter with an evil apparition who will stop at nothing to possess those who live in his mansion. Once Emma discovers the mansion's horrific past, she vows to never go back - or meet the same terrifying fate as those others so many years ago.

Light Ghost Story

Any additional comments?

I love old fashioned ghost stories so I jumped at the chance to listen to The Haunting of Maple Mansion by Carrie Bates. The premise is not a bad one, with an unknown presence living in an old mansion that appears to little kids asking for money and spooks the adults until they leave the house after living there only a few months.

I listened to the audiobook narrated by Lindsey Dorcus who did an admirable job. Lindsey had good pace and enunciated clearly. I just wish there was more inflection her voice.

This short story runs at just over 1 hour, which is appropriate considering it read like an episode of the 1960's TV show "The Twilight Zone" or more recently, Ghost Hunters. If you enjoy those types of show, you will probably enjoy The Haunting of Maple Mansion.

Bad ghost

Well written but so much more story could have been written. I want more! Is there a part 2 coming?

The Haunting of Maple Mansion review.

Would you consider the audio edition of The Haunting of Maple Mansion to be better than the print version?

I have to say about the same.

What did you like best about this story?

Everything. This is really a great story.

Have you listened to any of Lindsey Dorcus’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No I haven't.

If you could take any character from The Haunting of Maple Mansion out to dinner, who would it be and why?

Rebecca Jackson from the prologue. She's interesting.

Any additional comments?
