Publisher's summary

Siler House has stood silent beneath Savannah’s moss-draped oaks for decades. Notoriously haunted, it has remained empty until college-bound Jess Perry and three of her peers gather to take part in a month-long study on the paranormal. Able to talk to ghosts, Jess quickly bonds with her fellow test subjects, who have their own “gifts.” One is possessed. Another just wants to forget. The third is a guy who knows how to turn up the August heat, not to mention Jess’s heart rate…when he’s not resurrecting the dead. The study soon turns into something far more sinister when they discover that Siler House and the dark forces within are determined to keep them forever. To escape, Jess and the others must open themselves up to the true horror of Siler House and channel the very evil that seeks to hold them in.

Interesting to a point

Where does The Haunting Season rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

around the middle.

Who was your favorite character and why?

None of them--couldn't really engage.

Any additional comments?

sort of 'meh' The reader tried too hard and it intruded on the book itself, at times. The story was fairly interesting, but I doubt I'll listen to it again.

Finished it.

It's ok probably won't be one I relisten though. There were chapters one or two that I did skip over which contained two very thirsty teens/new young adults were a bit much to listen to for me personally at least. I was here more for the ghosts then the romance aspect but it was enjoyable and sometimes creepy in the good way.

I wanted something outside of my usual

This book was creepy but not overly so. There were many things that reminded me of Rose Red. So if you liked that you will like this.

Familiar story held together with good performance

If you've seen the Haunting of Hill House you can anticipate the story, with few changes. Didn't realize that young people were the primary characters, and could have lived without the romance and heavy breathing. Probably suited for young adults, but too predictable for adult ghost story fans. Excellent performance and entertaining but not in the "scare the heck out of you" category.

Amazing performance!

This was a well written book very good but just as important.. the reader was amazing! She is able to change her voice to which character she was representing and she did a phenomenal job. It was a great book I highly recommend it for paranormal fans! Tavia Gilbert just amazed me the way her acting talent came out in her reading!

Great story, disturbing

Where does The Haunting Season rank among all the audiobooks you’ve listened to so far?

Not bad, interesting.

What did you like best about this story?

I liked the way the characters interacted to the house in their own way.

Have you listened to any of Tavia Gilbert’s other performances before? How does this one compare?

No, but this book was pretty good. I liked her southern inflection to the voice of each character.

Who was the most memorable character of The Haunting Season and why?

Jess because she was very "real" in the story. Her story came to life.

Any additional comments?

I thought Allison's voice was too intense and sounded like she was on the verge of panic with every sentence. Her character would have annoyed me had this been a movie.

Plan to sleep with a light on!

The Haunting Season
Written by: Michelle Muto
Narrated by: Tavia Gilbert
This was one scary story. It was an audible book and the narrator was awesome at keeping the panic level high! My nerves were shot by the end of it. She did the many voices great.
The plot and characters were so realistic in the story. This was creepier than the movie, The Haunted, the black and white version or the new version. This was not a hack-and-slash like some horror stories. This was mostly all paranormal and just creepy. The kind I like! This really should be a movie. The bad thing about a scary book, you have to turn the page, or in this case, keep listen to know what is going to happen. No pillow to hide behind to avoid the screen, there is NO SCREEN! The screen is in your head. I have too good of an imagination anyway and this author is very good about making you feel like you are there. Great world building, or in this case, house building. Twists, turns, and screams...no, the screams were mine, sorry! Good book!
