Publisher's Summary

It is a Dark Era, one when a lusty lass will do what she must to survive. Even if it means bartering flesh for a palmful of coins.

Forced to watch her mother burn at the stake, Jessie Taskill knows the danger of the gift she inherited: a powerful magic that must stay hidden. Until one night when she's accused of witchcraft and Jessie finds herself behind prison walls, awaiting certain death with a roguish priest unlike any man of the cloth she has known.

In reality, Gregor Ramsay is as far from holy as the devil himself, but his promise of freedom in return for her services may be her salvation. Locked into a dubious agreement, Jessie resents his plan to have her seduce and ruin his lifelong enemy. But toying with Gregor's own lust for her is enjoyable, and she agrees to be his pawn while secretly intending to use him just as he is using her.

If you like smutty books....

then this is it. I skipped parts where whe watched guys having sex or when she made out with a maid servant in front of him. Yuck! Made me sick. I just skipped to the end. Not my cup of tea at all!

Hot...Hot...Pleasurable Read!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

I fell in love with the characters. It was a simple story but it wrapped me up.

What about Helen Stern’s performance did you like?

Helen is a great narrator. She does a great job with all the female and male voices. Really brings the story to life.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

This book is HOT! I had an extreme reaction....

Any additional comments?

I can't wait to read Saskia Walker's other two books about Jessie's brother and sister. There was a slow point about the second quarter of the book, but then it picked up and came through as an awesome book! This is not a complex book...maybe it isn't thought provoking...but it's perfect for someone wanting an easy romantic HOT read!

No, it was just an average listen for me and I'd rather be wowed.

What was your reaction to the ending? (No spoilers please!)

Not surprised.

Any additional comments?

I'd save my credit for a better book. If your interested in this one wait until it's on sale.Just a warning, this book contains explict sexual content.

entertaining

So I actually started reading this series out of order and read book two prior to reading The Harlot and because I enjoyed the story and heard from others that the Harlot was so much better I knew that I had to read this story. unfortunately, my expectations were too high and this one failed to deliver on the hype.
Jessie, the main character was a "Harlot" by trade and was contracted to work her "magic" on the villain of this story. For the most part, the story had a decent plot, it was often times exciting but somewhere along the way, I lost the sizzle that was attracting me to the story all along.

While I recommend the story, I think it is best to start with this one first simply because book 2 was so much better. Each story is a stand-alone. They are about the occult and weave historical romance in to the mix.

enjoy

Hard to get into

It had raw scenes, but they weren’t steamy-just crass. The narrator wasn’t terrible, but it was hard to distinguish the characters.

Great book with a memorable heroine..

Would you listen to The Harlot again? Why?

Yes, The narration is very good and moves the story along well.

What did you like best about this story?

The main character Jessie's spirit and how she learns to trust and love.

What about Helen Stern’s performance did you like?

Excellent narrator with believeable voices.

Did you have an extreme reaction to this book? Did it make you laugh or cry?

I really liked it and I think Ms Walker may change the way people think about erotic romances. The books is sophisicated, sensual, have magical nuances and shows how love can transform a person.

Any additional comments?

Jessie and Gregor's bargin is based on revenge but soon you realize these two are made for each other. Each learns to trust each other and finds a kindred spirit in the other.
