Publisher's summary

Thor's hammer is missing...again.

The thunder god has a disturbing habit of misplacing his weapon - the mightiest force in the Nine Worlds. But this time the hammer isn't just lost, it has fallen into enemy hands. If Magnus Chase and his friends can't retrieve the hammer quickly, the mortal worlds will be defenseless against an onslaught of giants. Ragnarok will begin. The Nine Worlds will burn. Unfortunately, the only person who can broker a deal for the hammer's return is the gods' worst enemy, Loki - and the price he wants is very high.

Percy Jackson is the eponymous hero of the best-selling Percy Jackson and the Olympians series by Rick Riordan. He made his debut in The Lightning Thief at just 12 years old, where he discovered the shocking truth about his parentage: He is a demigod, the son of a mortal woman and the god Poseidon. Beyond his own series, he was one of the protagonists in the Heroes of Olympus series and has since appeared in other spin-off novels and series from Riordan.

Great story, horrible narrator

First things first, the story itself is amazing and really cool, however, the narrator almost ruined the whole thing. I love Riordan's books but good lord, Kieran's narration is ear bleedingly awful. It's monotonous and he sounds like he's speed reading and I couldn't tell the difference between his male voices and female or when he was talking as a giant or god. It all sounded the same. I normally have a high tolerance for bad voice acting and whatnot but this was pushing the limits of my tolerance. I normally don't say bad things about others, but for the love of Odin and his PowerPoint presentations, get someone who knows what they're doing for the next book. If you're looking at getting this book, be sensible and buy the hard copy or ebook.

Use Your Technology

Would you listen to The Hammer of Thor again? Why?

I love Rick Riordan's stories, and of all his characters I think Magnus is my favorite, the comedy is perfect. I totally loved it. of course I have always loved Norse mythology more than all the others.

What other book might you compare The Hammer of Thor to and why?

I'm not sure what book I would compare this to, but I think I recognize the story pattern from one of my old favorite Norse myths.

What aspect of Kieran Culkin’s performance would you have changed?

I think that people are too hard on narrators. The reading of this book was fast until I slowed down the reading speed from 1.10 to 1 after that it was perfect. If that all you have to do I don't understand why so many people have to spew all that bitchy hatefulness about the narrator. Use the feature of your Technology people.

Better Narrator than Sword of Summer

A lot of reviewers trashed this narrator, but I just finished Sword of Summer, and by comparison this one is much better.
The story is just as entertaining as you would expect from Rick Riordan. If you like his other books, you will probably like this one.
