Publisher's Summary

Eighty years into the future, the United States is a no-man's-land: its landscape blighted by chemical warfare, pollution, and plague; its government collapsed, its citizens adrift, desperate, and fighting to stay alive. Survivors in fortified compounds hold the line against wandering predators, rogue militias, and hideous mutations spawned by the toxic atmosphere. And against them all stands an enemy neither mortal nor merciful: demons and their minions, bent on slaughtering and subjugating the last of humankind.

But from around the country, allies of good have been summoned to challenge the rampaging evil. Logan Tom, wielding the magic staff of a Knight of the Word, has a promise to keep - protecting the world's only hope of salvation - and a score to settle, with the demon that massacred his family. Angel Perez, Logan's fellow Knight, has risked her life to aid the elvish race, whose peaceful, hidden realm is marked for extermination by the forces of the Void. Kirisin Belloruus, a young elf entrusted with an ancient magic, must deliver his entire civilization from a monstrous army. And Hawk, the rootless boy who is nothing less than destiny's instrument, must lead the last of humanity to a latter-day promised land before the final darkness falls.

The Gypsy Morph is an epic saga of a world in flux as the mortal realm yields to a magical one; as the champions of the Word and the Void clash for the last time to decide what will be and what must cease; and as, from the remnants of a doomed age, something altogether extraordinary rises.

Almost...

Throughout the "Genesis" series Brooks has been as good as ever. He picks you up and takes you away from your world and leads you through a world much older yet often parallels that which we live in. It is refreshing to have an author write a book which I would listen to alone, yet if one of my younger children joined in I would not have to worry. I find myself always being reminded of the basic principles I was taught as a child: honesy, loyalty, love, etc. I have read or listened to all of work Brooks has ever done and greatly anticipate what he may do next.

Just about ruined it for me

I used my credits for the first two books, and unable to wait for my next credits, I bought the last book. I should have either waited or not bothered - although I would have been left wondering what happened.

If the first book had been so poorly written, I would have never purchased the next two. It was as if he were bored with the series by the time he got to the last book and was just wrapping it up, because he had to do so. The first two books hooked me. The last book made me wish I'd never bothered reading the first one.

Agonizing Melodrama

I'll have to wait to get the book and read it, because listening to it was just too much. My goodness! Does the narrator have to be so melodramatic with each syllable? I read the first two books of the series, loved them, and thought of listening to the last one, but I just couldn't listen to this guy. If you want an example of good narration, look no further than the narrator of Stephen R. Lawhead's "The Pendragon Cycle". Absolutely extraordinary.

A little disappointed

I really enjoyed the first two books in this series, but I was a little disappointed with this one. Everything played out basically the way I expected with no real surprises. I guess I needed one more twist, or one more epic magic to maintain that "fantastic" feeling.

Still, a solid ending to the series, and worth reading.

Disappointed

If you’ve listened to books by Terry Brooks before, how does this one compare?

This last installment felt as though I were being dragged along only to finish up loose ends. It felt as though all energy was spent writing the first two books and the last one was half-heartedly written. The ending was also a little disappointing. I felt the series ended with a small "POP" instead of ending with a "BANG"

Was The Gypsy Morph worth the listening time?

If I would have known how disappointing the final installment would have been, I would not have read the series.

This narrator

Please, please, please study intonation and affect of African Americans speaking. Everytime I heard your rendition, meaning Panther, you sounded like Arnold from Diff'rent Strokes. Completely ruined what could have been a good performance. I simply hated whenever your spoke for this character. Any second, I was waiting for you to say, "What you talkin bout Willis?"

A great story of Armageddon!

I have chosen to listen to all the series from beginning to end. This one was overwhelmingly satisfying! It is the climax to all the books that lead up to it! My favorite part of this book was the relationship between Panther and Cat. I read Sword of Shannara when it first was on the end caps of the bookstore as a new release. Now ... Terry's Brooks world on audio are keeping me awake on my 1 hour drive to work and afterwards on my way home. TY for his labor and work to bring this world to us!

True to his usual brilliance.

Terry Brooks, in returning to the origins, has outdone himself. He is a genius. Thanks

great finale

I've read this book before listening to the audio recording. I thoroughly enjoyed the story both times. the performance by the reader is great and doesn't distract from the story with bad narration. this series really reinvigorated my love for this long running series.
