Publisher's summary
Beautiful, exuberant, and stubborn Georgiana Black has more spirit than sense - which she learns when an ultimatum to the Earl of Beckenham at a London ball ends their engagement. Six years later, Georgie is less concerned with impending spinsterhood than with making sure her young sister doesn't make the same mistakes she did. But soon Georgie stumbles into a scandalous encounter with none other than her former fiancé.
Beckenham is still breathtakingly desirable - and as iron-willed as ever...Beckenham's brief engagement to Georgie taught him one thing - when it comes to a wife, he wants a woman who will do her duty and cause no trouble. When the fiery Georgie falls unexpectedly into his arms, Beckenham remembers just how lushly delectable she is. Suddenly, the idea of actually marrying Georgie is irresistible. Georgie and Beckenham finally have a second chance at love. But in a battle of wills, can passion conquer pride?

3.5 STARS GOOD YES BUT LACKING
Sadly, in this second Westruthers book, I just didn't find the same humor and chemistry that book 1 had as most of the time the H/H were avoiding, arguing or annoying each other. Yes there were moments throughout the book where their passions fleetingly ran away with them but mostly Georgiana (the Heroine and ex fiancee) was trying to match up her handsome and patient ex fiancee the Earl of Beckenham (the Hero) to her sister.
The chemistry between them was there along with the attraction but Georgiana held secrets back instead of confiding in Beckenham which stopped her pursuing him herself and he had hardened his heart long ago to protect his feelings so it was a long long time before the 'feel-good' factor of the romance kicked in. But when it eventually did it was very touching, passionate and intimate as the lovers finally rekindled and reunited. There was a constant blackmail threat from one character, secrets to be told, sex and a bit of drama because we all know that, in these books, the path of true love never quite runs smoothly.
The narrator did a fantastic job in bringing all the different voices to life.
Worth a credit? I listened to this straight after book 1 because I had enjoyed that one so much and I was expecting something similar. However, this was probably my mistake because, whilst it was enjoyable and entertaining, it was frustrating too and just didn't have the same impact on me that the first one did. Creditworthy - yes but sadly no the greatest book ever.

Very Wordy
This book wasn’t for you, but who do you think might enjoy it more?
I don't really know. Maybe someone with lots of patience. The concept of the story was very good, however it was so wordy that it became so frustrating that I had to stop about half way through. I kept falling asleep and when I woke up, I hadn't really missed anything.
What could Christina Brooke have done to make this a more enjoyable book for you?
Less description of what is going on inside the main characters mind. It was the same thing only worded a little differently and done over and over and over again.
Have you listened to any of Elizabeth Wiley’s other performances before? How does this one compare?
She is very, very good. She is the main reason I purchased the book.
What reaction did this book spark in you? Anger, sadness, disappointment?
Frustration!

So disappointed!
I loved the first Westruther book and was excited that it was the beginning of a series. But this one was a terrible let down. I did not get all the way through it because I was so unhappy listening to the endless bickering between the H and h. I listen to escape, not to be a voyeur in domestic strife. I am going to try the third book because it is on Audible Escape. But after this one I will not waste credits on this author when the reviews indicate it is the story of a power struggle.

Can you say travesty?
Setting: London
Genre: Regency romance
The performance was average, neither good, nor bad. I wouldn't get excited to see another book narration by her, as I do with some.
Thank goodness for the fast forward feature. The plot was a good premise. I love the separated lovers who find one another again trope. But... The characters were just unlikable. Marcus, the Earl of Beckenham, was an interesting secondary character in the first book of the series, but he couldn't pull off his own story. And Georgie doesn't seem to have matured in the 6 years since she last saw Marcus. I know miscommunication is an oft-used plot device, but it doesn't need to be present with every character, to the point where no one knows what's going on.
This is not worth the time and credit.
