Publisher's summary

Thomas Watson was one of the most famous Puritan preachers in history, and his 17th-century writings are still read across the world today. A highly influential example of Puritan writing, The Great Gain of Godliness is Watson's study of Malachi 3:16-18.

British Baptist preacher Charles Spurgeon bemoaned the fact that he couldn't find a copy of The Great Gain of Godliness. Spurgeon told his scholars, "This volume would be a great find if we could come at it, for Watson is one of the clearest and liveliest of Puritan authors." We no longer face Spurgeon's dilemma, and listeners can now experience this classic text in a way unimaginable to 17th-century scholars.

Choice meat for men

This is perhaps one of the best books outside of the Holy Scriptures I have ever read.

Great Reminder for Us All

Well demonstrated Truth backed up Biblically at every step in well reasoned thoughts and conclusions. This book is a work of clear Biblical thinking with many deep concepts to contemplate, understand and live.

The author does not shy away from more difficult subjects such as God's wrath and judgment, or absolute Providence, but I found the book to be overall quite positive consistently driving the reader to be more concerned with Godly things than they probably are presently.

It is well written and narrated.

Thought provoking, Spirit-cultivating goodness

Was turned into Thomas Watson by men's pastor Steve Farrar whom has since gone to be with the Lord. There is richness in Watson's words... a depth to them that is not exercised in the thought life today by many Christians. This book was a good short work on living a godly life, something I always need sanctified reminders on. It was my first foray into Watson's work, I'll be listening to others. There were many quotable lines but the one I most remember, relating to fearing the Lord and letting that be a primary motivation for living a godly life was, "those who do not tear fear the Lord's justice are likely to feel it".

Holiness is not an Option

The narrator was precise and articulate. The story is about being holy because He is holy. Excellent teaching. Got only 4 stars because I do not believe in limited atonement, which is not a thread throughout. Jesus blood atoned for all who will receive Him. One thing I did like is the concept of if one is not living holy, they are not a child of God, not easy believism. Not by works either, If you love Him, He keeps the commandments in your mortal body.
