Publisher's summary

Michael Blac - a CIA deep-cover operative - will stop at nothing to keep the United States out of war. This motive lands him in Al Mukalla, Yemen, infiltrating the ranks of the most dangerous Al Qaeda officer in the Middle East. His task: gain access to commanding officer Khalid Batarfi, find the weapon source, assassinate Khalid Batarfi.

When a hailstorm missile desolates a cruiser boat that he had intended to be on, he realizes that he's been sold out by the CIA. He is presumed dead by every intelligence agency in the world and must survive on his own with no support from the United States government.

After five years of living life as a dead man, Michael's old foe learns of his secret and finds him. He is tipped off by an ally, and learns of a new enemy that is also looking for him: The Company. With his pitbull, Bane - the only living organism he fully trusts- by his side, Michael officially - unofficially - comes out of retirement to save the United States' democratic system from The Company, all the while being hunted by the Middle East's most feared terrorist leader.

From the no-name hills of Southwest Virginia to the concrete jungle of New York City, Michael must remain in the shadows. He does not reside on the black or white side of things; no, indeed. He is in the middle. He is the Gray Man.

Entertaining...though I was expecting Court Gentry

After I got over the intial surprise that this Gray Man wasn't Court Gentry, or the same narrator, it took me a while to settle into the book. I am spoiled by the Court Gentry series. This book was an okay as the narration sounded a bit overdone. Plus the characters were one dimensional. However, I am always up for a good spy novel. If there is a follow up to this novel, I will buy it...it was entertaining.

Hard to separate

While the story is the typical spy vs bad guys line, which we like, it was difficult to get past the bad attempts of voice/accent attempts of the reader.

The Gray Man

A poor replica of the real “Gray Man”books, but I plan to give Mr.King a second chance. Hope he will take the hint.

Okay read

This book was okay. It held my attention but wasn't riveting. It might have helped if I hadn't read the other Grey Man book first (involving the character Court Gentry.) I was actually trying to find the first book with the same author and character but found this one and thought it was that one. This was a decent read, like I said, but a little bit out there. It wasn't as realistic and didn't make me like it as much as the other but overall was okay. The narrator also was okay. I think he tried to do a good job but was just okay for me

Disappointing & hard to follow

The research wasn’t good. Gun errors mentioned. Scene jumps were hard to follow. The dog was a nice touch but no real explanation as to where the dog was then all of a sudden it’s by his side. Very disappointing in general. I hate to say it but not worth the time in my opinion. Of course it’s a lot easier to pick apart something than it is to create it from scratch.
