Publisher's Summary

With this follow-up to The Royal Wulff Murders, acclaimed author Keith McCafferty brings back fly-fishing PI Sean Stranahan for a second quirky adventure. When two graves are found on the mysterious Sphinx Mountain, the local sheriff suspects murder and calls on Stranahan to join the case. Then a vintage Gray Ghost lure from a riverside cabin disappears, and Stranahan begins to suspect that a deeper mystery is lurking just beneath the surface.

Solid Second Book In A Series

I've had such a difficult time recently with mystery series that have great first books and then lousy, often rushed follow up books. Thank goodness that isn't the case with this series set in wild Montana. I enjoyed book one and to me book two may even be better.

Be aware, this second entry in the series is more focused on hunting, ammunition and guns--but it still has some fly fishing, streams and fly tying too--so not to worry. The characters are more fully developed, the dialogue good and the descriptions of wild Montana beauty excellent.

This is becoming a series that I am beginning to look forward to. Engaging, some gruesome detail of violence and rough talk. However, overall consistent and well written. Looking forward to book three.

Pure Enjoyment!

Would you recommend this audiobook to a friend? If so, why?

Good storyline
Good narration
Good characterization
What else can I say.... ah yes, I would recommend to someone else and I can't wait for another book by Keith McCafferty.

What was one of the most memorable moments of The Gray Ghost Murders?

The fact that someone can develop a story line around fishing lures is memorable to me!

What does Rick Holmes bring to the story that you wouldn’t experience if you just read the book?

I love the sound of his voice as Shanahan

Was there a moment in the book that particularly moved you?

I could not "put it down". Had to listen to it all.

Any additional comments?

Waiting to hear more from Keith.......

Disappointing

It's disappointing when you can solve the mystery in the first few chapters simply based on the political views of the suspects. (Spoiler alert!!) Have a Republican, NRA member who is a big game hunter and you know it's three strikes and he's out. McCaffery tries to rescue the story with a little sub plot but it's a weak effort. The sad thing is that I was really getting invested in the characters and was looking forward to a long relationship. This plot has put me off the whole series.

Another great addition

Keith McCafferty has written another great addition to the Sean Strangham series. The characters continue to grow. Rick Holmes does a great job bringing the characters to life.

Colorful writing

I enjoyed Keith’s “word pictures “. Having spent a good part of the summer in this region of Montana I could visualize being there again. He will be added to my listening library!

Some Times You Just Don't Like the Story

This one started out o.k., but it quickly went down hill for me. I couldn;t finish it. Too much wasted time creating characters that were believeable and relialistic. Obviously I must be in the minority given the ratings on this book.

Second one as good as the first

I don't usually read books by the same author, but the first one was so good I had to try the second. I was not let down. Great characters carried over to this book. The story line was right out of the headlines, with old men who seem real.

Getting hooked on this series

Love the characters in this series, so glad I found these books. As an avid fly fisherman and hiker I'm really enjoying the balance between the story and the beautifully depicted landscapes.
