A panoramic history of the great state of Arizona

Explore the rich, complex history of Arizona from prehistoric times to the present day in Daniel Hardy's vivid new chronicle, The Grand Canyon State. This sweeping narrative brings Arizona's diverse cultures and landscapes to life in technicolor detail. From the cliff dwellings of ancient indigenous peoples to the boomtowns of the Old West, Hardy paints a panoramic portrait of Arizona as a crossroads shaped by Native American tribes, Spanish conquistadors, Mexican and American frontiersmen, Eastern immigrants and world wars. With a storyteller's eye for drama and detail, he chronicles the gunfights of the O.K. Corral, the rise of copper mining unions and the creation of the majestic Grand Canyon National Park. The Grand Canyon State also sheds new light on contemporary Arizona, exploring the state's political evolution, economic engines, and the lasting influence of its indigenous heritage. This rich saga provides an essential window into the people, places and events that gave Arizona its remarkable character. Hardy's sweeping narrative is popular history at its finest--a must-read for anyone who calls Arizona home or dreams of one day visiting its scenic landscapes and historic sites.

Arizona has a great history. But using superlatives which suggest every tribe of paleo humans was civilization or culture is a stretch. Once or twice, fine. But constantly, is just too much. To be sure these people were adaptive, intelligent and every bit as much human as we are…but there but this is just too much, because these were primitive cultures at best. And that’s it.

This is so drenched in political correctness is almost unlistenable.
