Publisher's summary

The Grail is another knockout from New York Times best-selling author Bob Mayer writing as Robert Doherty.

The Holy Grail - is it the key to a miracle...or a terrifying truth? The Great Wall of China, the immense carvings on Easter Island, Egypt's pyramids, UFOs: What is the chilling connection? The answer, unearthed by an elite band of soldiers and scientists based at Area 51, is rewriting human history - to include the aliens who shaped it!

Now, in this heart-pounding novel, Area 51 personnel embark on a top-secret search for the Holy Grail, a glittering artifact with the power to save the world...or lead to its destruction.

Special Forces officer Mike Turcotte has paid his dues in battle and in blood. Now assigned to Area 51, he fights the toughest enemy of his career: the alien race who arrived on Earth millennia ago and have returned to claim the planet.

Mike has dodged bullets and faced weapons of mass destruction to give humanity another day of reprieve. But when his lover, scientist Lisa Duncan, falls into evil hands, Mike must decide which prize means the most to him - the woman he loves or the legendary Grail. It's a decision that could damn him...or damn us all.

For KU subscribers, DO NOT BUY NARRATION!

I often find that the modest cost of adding narration to a KU book is worth it. NOT HERE.

And I am not finished with the book.

Save your money and read the book from print. The narration is excruciating. This is not a professional voice actor. I am flummoxed as to where they found him. He has no vocal range whatsoever. He is unable to voice the simplest of accents.

For those of us who have followed the books from the beginning, you expect a Chinese woman, an African man, an American commando, and a Russian to sound uniquely distinctive. Nope.

Save your money and enjoy this book in print. Happy new year!

Painful to listen to...

Story was great. Narrator reminded me of the kid Billy Madison made fun of. Pathetic job Martin Gollery.

narrator was the worst

the only reason I continue to listen was because I've already listened to the ones before and I wanted to see how it ends but the narrator was the absolute worst I have ever heard

Narrator is HORRIBLE

I really, really don't like to leave poor reviews, but this narration is horrible. The pronunciations of the characters names are often wrong and change, mistakes in the narration are not edited out or re-recorded....just plain horrible to listen too. Monotone, boring and how it passed to be put out there is beyond me. Have the other narrators redo this please so that it is enjoyable.

Horrible narration 😫😠😵‍💫

The Area 51 series is wonderful interesting fast paced I love the series.

The previous books had really good narration. Why would they switch to this guy. He did a couple of the Atlantis books too. It’s cringe worthy. It’s completely monotone and very difficult to tell what character is speaking as there is almost no change in voices for different characters. The Russian sounds exactly like the American and you have to figure out who is speaking. The only difference in voices is that it’s a bit softer with the 2 female characters.

There’s no editing or production at all. Periodically he’ll make a mistake and go back and restart the sentence. That would be edited out if there was any production at all. This is just some guy reading a book out loud in a monotone voice. The way he droned on I kept missing key facts and had to go back many many times.

I’m really hopping they went back to the other narrator for the rest of the books.

The terrible narration took much of the enjoyment of listening away. However I stayed with it because I’m completely hooked on the story and I own the whole series.

The story is awesome the concept is unique and intriguing. I couldn’t turn it off. I love this series.

That said you might want to read this one book and, providing they don’t use this narrator again, listen to all the others.

Terrible Narration and production

This is by far the worst narration I have heard on Audible. The performance was awful - no emotion, weird vocal pacing, no voices for characters. The production value is also bad. Lots of starting a word and then repeating it, or repeating lines. it is as if the production team missed cutting out bad takes. there is also a bunch of over modulated lines that sound like static. I thought my speakers had broken when it first happened. I would not recommend this ever. The story is ok at least.

Torture by Narration....

Is there anything you would change about this book?

THE NARRATOR!! Reading the other reviews, I thought was prepared for the poor choice of narrator, but my O my, nothing could truly prepare you for just how awful this guy is.

What other book might you compare The Grail to and why?

I don't have experience with another narrator bad enough to compare it to...

How did the narrator detract from the book?

restarting sentences MANY times. Seriously, did no one ever consider editing the voice file????? Also, voice inflection was horrible. I stuck with it because I've really liked the series. Had this guy narrated the first book, that would not have purchased the second one.

Was The Grail worth the listening time?

Now that I've survived the experience (and am likely scarred for life) I wish I had read it instead. It was not worth the listening time. Take my advice, read it instead. You'll be glad you did.

Any additional comments?

Zero start for performance is not an option..... but in this case, it should be.

Almost stopped reading series due to narration

What didn’t you like about Martin Gollery’s performance?

Choppy. Over-pronounced and mispronounced words. Multiple re-reads (where is the editing?) I can't believe that this was released with such a poor narration. When I purchase a book to listen to, I expect it to be done professionally and in a way better than I could have done myself. In this case, I feel like the money wasn't well spent. Dry and robotic with weak characters.
