Publisher's summary

What did God use to draw a radical, committed unbeliever to himself? Did God take her to an evangelistic rally? Or, since she had her doctorate in literature, did he use something in print? No, God used an invitation to dinner in a modest home, from a humble couple who lived out the Gospel daily, simply, and authentically.

With this story of her conversion as a backdrop, Rosaria Butterfield invites us into her home to show us how God can use this same “radical, ordinary hospitality” to bring the Gospel to our lost friends and neighbors. Such hospitality sees our homes as not our own but as God’s tools for the furtherance of his kingdom as we welcome those who look, think, believe, and act differently from us into our everyday, sometimes messy lives - helping them see what true Christian faith really looks like.

Excellent and Convicting

If you want to feel good about your current Christian walk and who you are, do not bother listening to this book, but if you are interested in being convicted of the shallowness of your “Christian” hospitality, by all means listen to this excellent book. While I don’t necessarily agree with every aspect of her focus of hospitality , I feel like true Christian hospitality has been a lost art and Mrs. Butterfield has done an excellent job in describing and putting into action what it truly is. In today’s world, the hospitality at the Butterfield’s house is shocking, but if Christians, myself included, practiced what the Bible teaches, it would certainly be ordinary. Prepare yourself to either be incensed with her “out of this world” demands or to come out with a new vision and purpose in serving the LORD through hospitality.

Best book of the year

This is transforming how we do life and think about our neighbors. The fact that the author herself reads it is powerful. Loved listening to this book. Can’t wait to read (or listen to) her others.

Compelling and Convicting

Today I apologized to my daughter. Why? Because she is now grown and after reading this book I know I did not instill the important value and virtue of Godly hospitality into her life. This book was deeply convicting. I found myself weeping in certain parts, aware of my extreme sin and deep selfishness. I accepted Jesus at 13 and I am just now, at 47, seeing my lack of Godly hospitality. Thank you Rosario for writing this book. Thank you for your honesty and forthrightness. I too, think about if Christians bestowed true Godly hospitality to a suffering world what amazing changes would be seen!!

Convicting and inspiring!

I’m so thankful for Rosaria’s teaching on radical hospitality. Biblical hospitality is so much deeper and meaningful than the southern hospitality I grew up on. This book is convicting, inspiring, and encouraging.

Convicting

What a thought provoking, heart convicting and prayer inspiring work. Thank you for the reminder and challenge of being the hands and feet of Christ for the glory of our God. Matthew 5:16

A convicting and inspiring appeal to hospitality!

This is the book I've been looking for! I, like Rosaria, have previously experienced cultures where the house is open, the dining table is always set and the village is a community. Too often in Christian circles I encounter the kind of attitude expressed in the family in the "conclusion". This book gives references to the Bible in its argumentation for a "radical" (in the eyes of modern westerners) openness towards one's community. To turn strangers into neighbours, and neighbours into the family of God. I pray that God will bless my ministry for Him with this kind of otherworldly servant-hearted love for the stranger. Please read it.

I'll be digesting these for years to come...

Heard the author on the radio, order this audio book on the same day, finished it in 4 days, and I'm sure I'll be carrying the stories, feelings, convictions, and paradigm shifted practices with me for as long as I walk this earth.
This book is a truly "game-changer!"
Thank you for your obedience to the Holy Spirit in sharing this with today's body, Dr. Butterfield.

We need this!

This book should be read by every person who names the name of Christ! We must learn to be hospitable by doing it in order to reach our neighbors. And...who is my neighbor? Ask God, he will show us.

The mission field surrounds

Loving our neighbors is easy but can be hard to get started. Mrs Butterfield gives plenty of examples of how to get started.
