I should have told Ben about Michael. I should never have told Michael about Ben....
One day, I was watching one of my aunties battle cancer. She was older, never married - alone. That day, I decided I never wanted to be like her.
So I looked around. and there was Michael. He worked on Wall Street. He was available. Most of all, he was into me. I let him catch me, then I made the biggest mistake of my life: I married a guy I didn’t love.
Maybe if I’d loved him, we’d have connected in bed and I wouldn’t have woken in the mornings feeling exploited. Maybe if I’d loved him, our infertility would have been manageable.
But I didn’t love him, not like I should have. So I left. I needed to have some time alone to think.
I never thought I’d meet someone. I never thought a guy like Ben would come into my life. But he did, and I want with him all the things I should have wanted with Michael.
Ben is my future. Unfortunately, Michael won’t stay in my past....

Great story with not so great narration
Although I enjoyed the story itself, I found it extremely hard to listen to this narrator and would love to re listen with a change in narration. The characters are interesting and the fact the she just decided to find herself be happy after her first marriage is brave and I applaud her. I just felt like the narrator didn't bring anything to the table for me. After Marrying a man who was good enough but in reality wasn't Hannah finds herself leaving town and searching for something more fulfilling. I wanted to love this story but I think I'll try the ebook next time.

The Dilemma of Complacency & Morality & True Love
Hannah is married to Michael, they have been together for years and both envision a life with a suburban home, and a few children. However, they were not having any success in the baby department and Hannah felt like she was only good enough to serve as an incubator for a child. Hannah and Michael have tried and completed all the fertility methods and all of the fertility testing. The news is never good.
The same day that Hannah has decided she was unhappy with their home. She doesn't love her husband and does not want to live the rest of her life as she had been living the past 14 years. She decides to get away for a few weeks but as she is packing her car, Michael reveals the final blow, he is sterile. It would take a miracle for them to become pregnant.
Hannah knows the timing is bad and Michael will assume that she is leaving because they can't have kids, but that is not really on her mind for once. She packs up her dog and clothes for a couple of weeks and drives north . Cody, her puppy, gets carsick and she does not want to keep driving while he is miserable so she looks for the next town that has a veterinarian.
Ben is the veterinarian in a very small town that was closest to Hannah's location. As soon as she sees him, sparks crackle and the sexual tension is overwhelming. Hannah wonders what just happened?
Ben's parents happen to have a house that they rent out in the area, so she decides to stay there.
From there we take an incredible journey. There are moral dilemmas, personal issues and one tiny thing Hannah forgets or doesn't share… That she is married.
This is an incredible book and the more I listened, the better it got. It is not your run-of-the-mill oversexed novel. Yes, there are some sexual scenes, but the writer expresses them in honest detail, especially what Hannah is feeling. But there is a much deeper story beyond that, the author dives into the moral dilemma – Hannah is married, she took her vows seriously, but can't live like this anymore and knows that Michael will not change. It makes you think, what would you or I do?
When she meets Ben, does she goes through with the sexual tension, she shouldn't, after all she is married, but…
There are so many layers that the author has put into this book and as you peel away each layer one finds herself asking "what would I do?" Or you want to tell Hannah that her decision is bad or good…
I don't always get fully engrossed in the books that I listen to. Especially books like this, one *that I agreed to review in exchange for a copy. This book was one that I cringed when I had to stop playing it and could not wait to listen to more of it. It is deep and thoughtful to any listener.
The performer, Michael T Bradley, was an interesting choice that was very good. Hannah is of mixed race, Dutch & black. Bradley did a wonderful job portraying each of these characters, I could see them in my mind.
The only flaw that I see in this book is that it contains references to current events. I'm not sure how that would affect future listeners/readers. I think that a more general approach would have a longer or broader audience for years to come. But what do I know? I'm just a reviewer.
Now for the important stuff: Strong language, mature themes - for the 18 years plus reader – for these reasons.
Stars: Please check my other reviews to see that I am quite stingy with my stars. Now for my rating, Overall 5 stars, performance 5 stars, story 5 stars. I would have given the story even more stars if I were able.
This book really left an impression on me and I will listen to it again. That too, is very rare for a *listen in exchange for a review book. I really liked it, did I mention that?
My note to you~
I enjoy leaving reviews, as I know that I read them the reviews of others before I purchase a book. If you found my review helpful in your decision about this book, would you please select yes directly below this paragraph? Thank you so much.
Please consider "following me" here on Audible.com. I purchased a lot of books by authors that I am faithful to. I also have the opportunity to review books in all genres, many that I would not pick up on my own. I have been pleasantly surprised by new authors and narrators. Thanks!

The good enough husband
Any additional comments?
The Good Enough Husband got my attention by its title. It peaked my interest Hannah is a thirty something year old woman who feels trapped in a marriage that brings her no happiness. Okay, she decides to marry Michael, someone she has known for a while. Knowing that she was not marrying for true love, but for comfort A very easy read.
I loved this book!
THE GOOD ENOUGH HUSBAND is a true to life romance that will capture your heart and stir your emotions. Sylvie Fox has written a story that will stay with you long after you listen to the last word.
Narrator Michael T. Bradley has a rich and compelling sound to his voice that brings the characters in the story into vivid detail. I found myself listening with rapt attention.
I enjoyed this story very much and I look forward to reading more from Sylvie Fox in the future. You don't want to miss this five star read!
