The Girl with All the Gifts: Booktrack Edition adds an immersive musical soundtrack to your audiobook listening experience!*

Booktrack editions are essentially a new genre of digital storytelling entertainment. Music and ambient audio are added to complement and enhance the audiobook experience. It is a synchronized movie-style soundtrack that complements the narration of existing audiobooks; the tempo and rhythm of the score harmonize with action, dialogue and the characters' emotional arcs.

The USA Today best seller

Melanie is a very special girl. Dr. Caldwell calls her "our little genius".

Every morning, Melanie waits in her cell to be collected for class. When they come for her, Sergeant keeps his gun pointing at her while two of his people strap her into the wheelchair. She thinks they don't like her. She jokes that she won't bite, but they don't laugh.

The Girl with All the Gifts is a groundbreaking thriller, emotionally charged and gripping from beginning to end.

*Booktrack is an immersive format that pairs traditional audiobook narration to complementary music. The tempo and rhythm of the score are in perfect harmony with the action and characters throughout the audiobook. Gently playing in the background, the music never overpowers or distracts from the narration, so listeners can enjoy every minute. When you purchase this Booktrack edition, you receive the exact narration as the traditional audiobook available, with the addition of music throughout.

Great twist on an old story - Horrible Booktrack

I really enjoyed the story and the interesting twist on the apocalyptic world of zombies roaming the earth - BUT - the Booktrack soundtrack was VERY ANNOYING and made it almost impossible to concentrate on what the narrator was saying. I thought that I would give the Booktrack edition a chance but PLEASE, GIVE ME THE MONOTONE NARRATOR ANYDAY OVER THE REPEATING DRONE OF A FEW NOTES. The music was so bad and so loud that at time I could not understand what the narrator was saying. I will never buy another Booktrack edition again!

The soundtrack made me feel the book more.

I like the fact that the soundtrack made me feel the book more than just listening to the narrator. I think the ambient music really goes well with this book as well. Of course, first and foremost, the narration was already excellent in the first place. And together with the soundtrack, this book was a perfect listen.

Really good!

I’d seen the movie and was interested in reading the book. The additional sound design is an interesting idea. It certainly made it more enjoyable but wasn’t necessary. The story is excellent.

Whose world is it anyway?

Single mindedness of characters kept the story moving through conflicts but not likely to find such diversely focus people in one setting at the crucial moment. Overall enjoyable read

Excellent book, great plot, interesting characters. I liked how descriptive the writer was and the narrator does a great job.

Can't understand why people like this

It's been a long time since I've read a book I've disliked this much. I couldn't relate to a single one of the characters, there's no plot or story to speak of, and the music and sound effects in the background were incredibly annoying and there's no way to turn them off. This book just seems like a thought experiment about what if Ophiocordyceps could infect humans, but without much of an attempt to make an actually interesting story about it. But it's not even that original of an idea - if you want an actual good story about a world where Ophiocordyceps infects people, go play The Last of Us (or watch a playthrough on YouTube).

Didn’t know

Not my favorite genre. Good if you like apocalyptic storytelling. after sticking with it, I liked the ending.

Entertaining take on the zombie theme

Interesting and entertaining read! A new take on a somewhat worn out topic. Only complaint is that several of the characters seemed to toggle between being incredibly astute, intelligent, and logical, to being irrational, illogical, and driven by emotional whims. I often felt frustrated by suddenly uncharacteristic mood swings among some of the main characters that seemed unrealistic and made it hard for me to sympathize with their choices. Would have preferred a more consistent and gradual character development as opposed to characters that seemed to swing like a pendulum. But still a fun read - great for a beach week! (Side note : I also really found the theatrical sound affects and music a bit cheesy and contrived, if that is distracting to you don’t get the audiobook!)

Audible disappointment

I was so excited to listen to this book but could not get past the constant, “background noise”. The ominous music and sound effects were too loud and distracted me from properly listening to the narrator. I returned my Audible version. I wish there was a way to distinguish narrated books from these newer “radio story” narrations that have been coming out lately. When the author is reading aloud about a scraping sound, I can easily imagine it, I don’t have to hear it too.
